    Hello,

Does anybody know how to upgrade the memory of a A2K notebook? I can not seem to open the cover.

There are 2 memory slots, the first is located on the underside of the notebook and is easily/enduser accessable.
The other is located under the keyboard, this one is difficult to get at and will void your warranty, so just be aware before you try. There should be a link to a pdf manual on how to get to this for the A2 series in the sticky "ASUS upgrade manuals"

Actually both the memory slots are located under the keyboard. There is no compartment on the underside of this notebook unlike the M6N for example.

However I did manage to get the cover opened and install the RAM. The steps are virtually exactly the same as the A2H except on the A2K it is not clear which hole you insert a pin (I used a paperclip) in. For those interested insert a blunt pin or paperclip in the hole which is the 14th hole from the right and 5th from the top of the bunch of holes located on the top right of the notebook and push the cover to the left. The correct hole looks ever so slightly different from the rest and is in a similar location to that of a A2H.

From here the installation is the same as a A2H (download the instruction guide for information). No seals were broken so warranty is still fine.

Racer, once you've had a chance to put the A2K through its paces I wouldn't mind hearing what you think of it.

    Cheers,

Here is a brief summary of my impressions of the A2000K. The specifications I have in this system are:

    AMD Athlon 64 3200+
    1GB RAM
    60GB HD
    DVD-RW
    64MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700

Firstly the system is fast, certainly the fastest notebook I've used. It scores around 850 on 3dMark05 which is quite impressive. The fan is annoyingly loud, and starts and stops quite often. It's not heavy or bulky at all. Other than that nothing really noticeable compared to other Asus notebooks. At the price they are available for it's a excellent notebook.

Fastest notebook ever. The spec I have are:

    Mobile 62W A64 3400+
    1x 512MB Samsung PC3200 DDR
    1x 512MB Kingston ValueRAM PC3200 DDR
    60Gb Toshiba 5400RPM with 16MB Cache
    128MB R9700 w/ newest desktop Catalyst driver

Everything is good.. the only problem is.. the laptop now doesn't power up now. It only charges the battery. I have to RMA it.
