    Amazon.com: ASUS A53SV-XE1 15.6-Inch Versatile Entertainment Laptop - Black: Computer & Accessories

    The A53SV is a fairly new offering from ASUS so it's been hard to find feedback. So far, going off Amazon reviews and pure specs this looks like a great buy. Does anyone have experience or know of comparable options I could look at? I'm mostly concerned with the ergonomics and heat safety of the side mounted DC power...right next to the massive air vent.

    Looking for something on the order of:
    15.4/15.6"
    $800-1000
    Sub 6 lbs
    GT 540M comparable or better
    i7 Sandy Bridge
    Comparable RAM and HDD to the ASUS.

    It will spend half its life on a cooler plugged into an external monitor and half by its lonesome self. Thanks in advance!

    I am browsing Amazon for a laptop as well.

    My problems with this particular laptop are:
    * 5400 RPM HD
    * 1366x768 display

    For a little more the N53SV-XE1 has a 1920x1080 display and a 7200RPM hard drive.

    Now, for even LESS MONEY you can go over to Newegg and get a G53SW-XN1 which has 1920x1080 display, 7200RPM hard drive, 6GB of RAM instead of 4, and a GTX 460M video card, which is considerably better than the GT 540M .

    I looked at the G53SW in person and just couldn't justify the size and weight. My use for a laptop runs between two extremes of portability - either docked to an external or on my back to and from class/lab. I've owned 17 inch laptops before and lugging around the weight isn't always feasible. It's a shame, the G53 line is amazing :(

    That's too bad, I ordered the g53 and got it the next day, it is a beautiful laptop. I couldn't justify paying more for less with the ones on amazon. GL finding what you need.

    Where did you find the G53 for less than the A53? The price I'm seeing on Newegg is $200 more after the mail in rebate.

    I meant that it was less than the N5, not the A5. Sorry for the confusion.\

    e: seems they just dropped the price on the N5 since I originally posted it, that's not true now either! heh.
