Just bought a new A55A laptop for my wife, got it in, and was running updates. I am running into a major issue where both the USB2 (x2) and USB3 drivers are not installing properly.
I must have run through 4 different versions, all with the same results. I've tried BIOS updates. Tried numerous deletes and reinstalls. All the same result.
Anyone with any remedies?

Did you try applying the latest chipset update? And did the ports show up in device manager both before and after the updates (whether they displayed an exclamation point or not)?
-
Flashed BIOS to latest release
Uninstall drivers from Device Manager
Uninstall Intel installer package
Uninstall ASUS Live Update
Install latest Intel drivers: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?DwnldID=21129
Install ASUS USB Charger Plus update: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download USB Charger -
Does your A55A have Win 7?
The Intel link you provided does not include Win 8.
This page
Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver — Not Compatible reported when upgrading from Microsoft Windows 7* to Windows 8*
states that
"Windows 8 has native in-box USB 3.0 driver. Intel is not releasing a specific USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller driver for Windows 8"
I just bought a K55A with Win 7, replaced the drive in it, performed a clean install of Win 7 ultimate and updated the drivers with no problem.
I purchased the Windows 8 upgrade, and installed it on another partition for dual boot.
I've resolved all the Win 8 driver conflicts except one.
When I plug in a WD 3tb usb 3.0 external drive, into the front left USB 3.0 port, device manager returns the error/conflict
" WD SES Device USB Device "
After the clean Windows 8 pro install, I installed the following drivers from the Asus site:
Audio Realtek Win7 64 Z6016685
Touchpad Elantech Win7 64 Z105100
KBFilter Win8 64 Z1005
Cardreader Realtek Win8 64 Z62840027024
Virtual Camera Win8 64 Z1026
IRST Intel Win8 64 Z11501207
Chipset Intel Win8 64 Z9301021
MEI Intel 15M Win8 64 Z8101252
WirelessRadioControl Win8 64 Z1001 (got rid of unknown atk4001 device)
USBChargePlus Win8 32 64 Z208
I can access the WD external drive, but the device mgr error remains. -
My instance was Windows 7 64-bit.

This download from WD
WD SES driver download and instructions for recovering the WD SmartWare installer
removes the device error. It doesn't seem to affect performance. Strange that Win 8 returned that device driver alert, but Win 7 did not.
