    Hello,

My A6G notebook has recently started having a very strange problem. I had it up on a table, hooked into my wireless network, as I was working on a sewing project and was referencing several websites. I had left it on one particular page for, I guess, an hour or two (I had disabled the screensaver and energy-saving modes so as nto to deal with the hassle of going out of them all the time), and when I went to look at it the display was .... strange.

Gray hues took on a pinkish cast, and the menu bars (like right now, the menu bar of my browser says 'ASUSTek Computer Inc.-Forum') -- which normally are a gradient that goes from blue to gray -- was weirdly banded in shades of pink, magenta, and yellow. The mouse pointer shadow takes on a vague greenish outline, as well. I rebooted to see if that would help, and noticed that the Windows banner (the four-colored one that shows up as it starts loading up) was weirdly hued as well. I can read the text and all, its just the colors that are strange. There also seems to be a sort of vague pixel wavering going on, like the pixels are now more prominent.

I have tried various things to little effect. I know I have nto changed it from its native display mode (though I have tested changing it back and forth to see if it helps -- it doesn't). I had it set to a purely black screen saver for about 30 minutes and when I turned it back on, it _did_ seem to be corrected for a little while before shifting back to this problem. I am now trying a lengthy period with a white screen saver to see if, perhaps, that will somehow help (I know it has more to do with ghosting problems, which this doesn't seem to have, but I don't have a lot of ideas at the moment).

Oh, one last thing I tried was plugging the laptop to my CRT monitor and passing the video through to it. The monitor works perfectly, so I don't believe its the Radeon 9700 as such that is the problem. Perhaps the contact with the LCD has gotten a bit dirty or oxidized, or a cable has been crimped? Or is this a sign of a problem with the actual LCD monitor that will require replacement?

If you've any experience with this kind of problem, please let me know and detail what steps (if any) you took to repair it. I would absolutely love to get it fixed on my own without having to turn it in for service, as I need to have it with me for a business trip in three days.

(Finally, if it is an LCD problem -- erk -- does it necessarily mean its about to die on me, or can it last a long while more without difficulty?)

    Any pictures?

I believe its the LCD, I currently can not recall the name of the problem, but it has happened before. So when LCD monitors aren't in use, best thing to do is either turn it off or put up a screensaver that constantly moves around and displays different things.

    Hello,

Thank you for responding, Coriolis. I do have some pictures. The first is a screen capture, which shows that the video card is outputting things just fine -- its the LCD, somehow, that's the problem (or the physical interface between the LCD and the videocard):

The next are taken with my digital camera, and are very large. The first one features the orange/pinkish and yellow banding on the menu bar where there is usually a nice gradient:

This next one shows the pink, radiating circles on the shutdown menu, which obviously indicates a problem with displaying a gradient (again):

This one isn't too useful because its so out of focus, but you can see a hint of the menu bar banding problems, and some of the menu items show a pinkish outline.

Thanks for any assistance you can provide!
