Well as the title says I've got myself a card reader problem.

The card reader will read Sony memory sticks without a problem, but no matter what drivers i install or what i try the stupid thing wont read SD cards. I've tried the same SD cards in other PC's and they work great.

I sent my PC to ASUS New Zealand two weeks ago, just got it back today unrepaired as they are awaiting some part from asia which will take 3 weeks to get here! So i have to send it back again in 3 weeks :(

Anyone seen this same problem and found a fix? Really need this PC for work...

I am sure you;ve personally tried everything possible to get it to work right? Remove the card reader (Ricoh) and then reboot the laptop and let windows install it automatically, or you can manually install it.

If have tried this, there is a substitute, for roughly 10$ you can get a USB card reader, and then you place your SD card into the USB card reader dongle and it will work.

Have your tried the SD card into other laptop, and devices like a digital camera, just to make sure it is still working?

The cards work great in 5 other laptops i tried, 3 Asus laptops (one the exact same model as mine) with the same (yes ricoh) readers, and two HP's. And they both work in my Palm T3. The cards are fine.

As for drivers I've tried various ricoh and even non ricoh drivers from as far back as 4 years ago to the latest ricoh ones.

Well the reader detects that a card has been incerted, Its just that when i try to access the card it wants to format the card but only sees it as a512kbits card, and cannot format it. I even tried under ubuntu and no luck either.

Was just wondering if anyone has seen something like this before, as the Sony MemoryStick part of the readers has been working fine for months.

I would kinda like it to work as I bought the new 150x speed Sd card for Vista's readyboost.

well by your description it must be hardware failure. although you can try scraping the actual contacts.

The part is actually extremely cheap if you can find it.

yeah i was thinking of giving the contacts a bit of a scrape... or use some cotton and IPA.. but being under warranty i didnt want to mess with it.

do you have an idea where to get one? it looks like its part of the motherboad..
