I bought my Asus A6T back at Middle of September 06. It worked fine until, hmm, April 08 if I recall correctly. Then once it just shut down(?) and when I restarted it only gave me black screen, with fan and DVD-station running. Anyhow, I sent my laptop to ASUS and I got it back fixed.
About few months ago (can't remember how soon after the warranty fix. Probably month or two) my laptop started heating up _alot_ and shut down by itself. I suspected that fans would be stuffed, and oh boy - they were.
Last weekend, I opened up my laptop and cleaned the fans with, hmm... I'm not sure what's the word - I think it's called compressed air, and nowadays it's running fairly low tempeatures - but it still keeps shutting down. Also, when I did this, I noticed that it might have damaged my fan, as sometimes, it just simply doesn't launch after startup. It goes on for about 2 to 4 seconds and then stops - and doesn't launch until tempeatures get VERY high, and even then it's just few seconds it goes on and stops again.
This can be fixed by booting, but it requires few tries, and it's starting to get really frustrating. Could it be that some connector got loose or such when cleaning it up?
The laptop might shut down even when it's been on for few minutes (And started after having it closed for hours), so that should prove that it's not heat that keeps shutting it down.
Also, for some odd reason, when I play Guild Wars, my laptop seems more stable. I once ran Guild Wars +24 hours on windowed mode and my laptop didn't shut down a single time.
My laptop is on almost at all times - unless it shuts down and I'm not at the computer. I'm running Windows XP (It's not same as ASUS delivered, as I managed to delete that stuff off from my HDD on format and they delivered recovery discs - which by the looks of it required those files)
I'm always connected to AC, and barely ever running by just battery itself - but now I'm currently running it without the battery.
So my questions put simple:
1. Why A6T keeps shutting down?
- Not a problem with tempeature
- Fan cleaned
2. Why fan doesn't always launch up more than few random seconds every now and then?
- Cleaned up a week ago - and I think problem started with that, or then I never noted it before.

Maybe the fan's motor is dying from all that dust that was stuck in it. Might be time for a replacement fan. Either that, or maybe one of the wires has come somewhat loose when you cleaned it.
Edit - also the typical response is "update your bios" so do that if you're not on the latest... could be a fan control issue with the BIOS, make sure your atk drivers are up to date too
A6T Shuts Down by itself + Few other problems
