Hi all, I am looking to buy an Asus A6ja with 2gb of ram and an upgraded 7200rpm hard-drive (not done my-self but directly at the re-seller). I am in Holland temporarily but usually based in England, I was going to buy the laptop in Holland since it's cheaper.
I'm however concerned about the guarantee as the new hard-drive will not be covered directly by asus but rather by the reseller so if I had a problem I'd have to send it back to Holland from the UK.
As such I was going to go for the standard 100gb 4200rpm hard-drive so it's covered by Asus. Does anyone have this that can give me an idea of if it is too slow in general? and in particular for games (guild wars, WoW, oblivion)? Thanks in advance - Ben

Boffinboy, the original harddrive would probably be dealt with by Asus yes, but the new one depending on the brand you get should be covered by that company and not your reseller.
So if it's a Hitachi you would contact Hitachi if anything goes wrong with it. I don't know how Hitachi deals with their warranty and RMA stuff, but Western Digital does it well.
You give them creditcard information and Western Digital ships out a replacement drive for you, even before you send them the defective one.
Very fast response time too. Usually get the harddrive within a week, but that's over here. Over where you are probably take a little while longer, but not too much longer.
Ask your reseller about this, as warranty with harddrives is usually 3 years at least and some require you to register on their website as well, so ask for the S/N so you do'nt have to take it out yourself to check.
Cheers,
Mike
