I'm currently in the process of buying a new and first laptop. After looking around a lot, the asus brand really caught my eye. Now I'm unable to choose between the A8F and the A8Jm. Let me explain.
I'm currently in need of a laptop to replace my main computer system that is 6-7 years old. Now I'm tight on money and the A8F is right in my favored price range. My old comp has a nvidia TNT2, so the intergrated graphics card is already an improvement for me. The go 7600 of the A8Jm might be too much for me right now since there is a bunch of games i would have liked to play games that I missed because of my old comp's weakness.![]()
Now, first thing, would I be able to upgrade the graphic card later in the A8F with a go 7600. I know normally think that it isn't possible, but since the system was made to fit a go 7600, i was just wondering if these things are soldered or something making it impossible.
Secondly, this is just a general question, but the a8 series comes with a 6 cell batterry. Is it possible to fit higher cell batteries into the system? Since I would rather spend money making the A8F more mobile then gaming.
Lastly, this question is for Milestonepc.com if he is reading this. Right now I'm in montreal, how much would it cost me to have a laptop sent to me? I cannot find the shipping info on the site. Also how would the 1 year warranty work since I'm far from your offices?
Thanks in advance guys

Shipping is a flat rate I believe, $20 anywhere in Canada? Their old site used to have thta info, not sure of it now though. But remember, 7% tax since you are in Montreal
As for the battery, there was word of ASUS speaking to battery companies about making a larger battery, but the thing is, the battery is located at the bottom, not really near any 'edge' of the laptop, so it might oddly stick out or around.
The 7600 Go '*is* modular, from what I recall, however, chances are it won't be replacable, so its just left that way, since the graphics card has to be manufacturered by ASUS, it won't be financially worth it to make another card which will fit into the A8 series as of yet. -
hi,
to answer your first question. No it is absolutely not possible for end users to upgrade anything but CPU, RAM, HD and optical drives in laptops. Even if the laptop comes with an MXM slot, the graphics is often soldered in and modified. Adding a more powerfull GPU also increases heat, and the laptop wont be able to handle it.
As for your otherquestions, i dont know im afraid. -

Open the pdf and read on page 7. So technically, I would only be charged the federal tax which is right now 6% since milestonepc.com will ship the product to outside ontario. That's, um.... pretty cool.
It also seems I will have to make a choice between a go 7600 and 350 bucks since you cannot change the GPU from what coriolis and gethin say.
Btw, coriolis you said that the battery will stick out and is not near any edge. Does that mean it will stick out from the bottom??? Like it will wobble over a bulge when you put it on a table?? -
-
I believe coriolis was referring to the possibility of the battery sticking out IF ASUS makes a larger battery. Right now nothing is sticking out.
-
Ah, I also meant the larger battery, not the one which comes with it. I was just wondering about coriolis' statement about the battery not being close to any edge and its consequence for adding a bigger one. It would really look weird.

Yeah... just hope they do find a way to pack more power into the same sized battery
-
yeah...like a 20-cell at the same weight. haxzors. -
Btw, all my friends are trying to influence me into getting the go 7600, lol. I think they want me to join their LAN club.
Btw, I noticed that the A8 screen is really freaking glossy, did anyone have comments about this? I mean, I heard these things are really bad for the eyes. -
the only thing that can make it bad for your eyes is if you go outside and reflect the sun directly into your face with it..other than that..glossy's are great =)
on the topic of a8f vs a8jm..put it this way..if you're EVER going to play games on it during its lifespan its better to go with the dedicated rather than regret the saved money -
Really? I was under the impression that reflection on screens are a bad thing for the eyes. As for the gaming side, I was thinking about saving the graph card money to buy a Revolution.
I'm still undecided about that.
