ASUS support just told me that their spec says A8JM supports Dual-link DVI
whereas the F3JM supports only single-link (dual-link DVI uses a
differential signalling technique that supports very high resolution
displays; single-link uses a single-ended technique).
This means that the A8JM is capable of driving huge displays
(2500 x 1600) cleanly whereas the F3JM will have trouble beyond 1200x1900.
This is probably of little practical consequence, since I doubt I'd drive
anything bigger than a 24" external monitor, but this difference seems just plain wierd and certainly wouldn't seem to save any production cost. Can anyone verify that this difference is real?
If the F3JM is really dual-link, then it's a pretty close match for the MacBookPro. Pity we can't get a 900 x 1440 non-glossy display from ASUS.

hrmm, that sounds kinda weird, not to doubt you mosswings. But, can any sellers verify this?

The theory behind the story is correct, but regardless, it's not exactly the most impotant thing in the world either. The F3 is a pretty cheap system.... yes, the features are good for it's price, but other than being a good value, the system itself isn't the highest end Asus offers. WUXGA is a **** high resolution.... 23" widescreens use WUXGA and they cost pretty much as much as the notebook. You go above that and you're dealing with a super high res 30 or 40" LCD - and frankly those are some of the least common monitors - mainly because there isn't a huge market for them, but also because they cost 2x the F3 does. If you have a monitor like this, chances are you're not going to be using a laptop like the F3.....
A8JM and F3JM DVI support is different?!
