I'm just wondering how these laptops compare. I can't seem to find many reviews of either. I like the A8JM's 512mb graphics card but other than that I don't know much about it. Is it hotter or noisier than the S96J? How is the battery life comparison?

Couple of my posts should answer something to you.

Thanks. Based on those, and the specs for each computer, it seems like the A8JM is pretty much superior. I've heard the S96J runs basically silent, so when you say the A8JM is louder, how much louder really? Audible in a quiet place like a library?
-
kengou.. the A8Jm I have is nearly silent most of the time.. don't think u have to worry about noise in the library....unless u plan on playing games in there
-
Great, thanks. No, I doubt I'll be gaming in a library, I just used that as an example.
-
Another question: in terms of gaming performance, which has higher benchmarks generally, the a8jm nvidia 7600 512mb, or the s96j ati x1600 256mb?
Finally: I can't find a single place that actually sells the a8jm, any suggestions? -
I think they should be comparable in benchmarks... prob the x1600 scores a bit higher in 3dMarks.
I don't think the A8Jm has been released in the US yet, if you're in Canada, MilestonePc.com and NCIX.com has them. I think someone mentioned u can get an A8Jm branded as something else (PortableOne MX I think...). -
^yep. P1's MX will be the one in the US
Do any of the canadian dealers ship to the US? -

im not really worried too much about how the 512mb 7600 compares to the 256 mb x1600
it will be hard to find comparisons because theres only one machine with it, the a8jm it might be the only one ever its too complicated to explain why.
the only benchmark i saw was not any good but it showed it was faster. I mean that is speaking out of both sides of my mouth but thats what it said, it said it was a lot faster but then within the data it showed it was worthless comparing the wrong things.
right now some games require a 128 mb video card
someday soon, 256 mb.
MAYBE by the end of the life of your notebook they will require 512 mb. MAYBE you can run those games, the fear 3, really slowly because you have enough vram even though your gpu will be way out of date by then.
this maybe is a big selling point to me. not necessarily the 3dmark scores. -
i want to pontificate a little more on this.
you notice that this generation of graphics cards comes with 128 mb, 256 mb or 512 mb
all of the lower ram cards are already set to use system ram out of the box to be 512 mb. even though it makes no sense at all.
people say the 1400 xl cant even use 256 mb it cant keep up. but why is it set at 512 mb? when all the games these cards are running dont even use 512 mb in textures to make this feature worth a crap?
Its because in the next itineration of gpus, soon, all of them will be 512 mb. the next gaming platform is going to require 512 mb cards. and these 2006 cards, they will be able to run and be compatible with those applications although they will be slow because they will emulate a 512 mb card,
ok do you follow me? I think the release of this generation of cards shows you you need 512 mb video cards to be a pc gamer. It will be the standard, within a short while as far as these things go.
when the gaming developers make a game, they will assume you have a 512 mb card on any pc purchased this year or henceforth. Only if you hit on one of these hypermemory cards, youll be the lowest end.
i think also that this generation of cards will go through one more market cycle and they will only be available in 512 mb versions during the time the next generation makes it to the market. -

stamar,i do understand what your saying, this may occur sooner or later, from what i read from your posts, is that you think this will happen at the end or early next year. This would be interesting. (more likely bad) hehe
Uhm, do you have any info regarding the next generation of ATI or Nvidia Mobile graphic cards?
Also when do you think they would be released, so that manufacturers can use them.
Thanks,

oh well Im not even up to date on the tech blogs.
I think jan dec of next year is a good bet for the dx 10 cards.
yes I do think the current generation of graphics cards are going to all be 512 mb versions. meaning, sometime around christmas and then ongoing through next year, they will all offer only 512 mb versions of the 7800 7400, or x1600 x18000 etc
games in development this year and onward are all in development on 512 mb cards
