ASUS A8JP is available on new egg for 1300 USD.... With ATI x1700 and bluetooth. WOW! Something must be wrong with the price.

I just asked an Asus guy, he said he didn't see that model on their product list at all, must be something wrong.
-
newegg rocks
-
Reasons to get A8Jp: cheap, 120gb HD
Reasons to get A8Js: XP pro versus media center, 1X1024 versus 2X512, go 7700 versus X1700. Price difference is about $250. Is $250 worth these differences to you? If it is, then buy the A8Jp, if not get the A8Js. -

a8jp is not even available in the disti channel. dunno where new egg got em but if it says in stock then they got em.
-
The A8Jp has Bluetooth stock (at least according to the Newegg specs) as well.
-
So does the A8Js price that I was quoting...stock BT

It does indeed
if you look at the pic they have of the bottom there is a dark label there that denotes it required by fcc i believe -
I bet for a lot of people the Windows MCE is a plus, because it gets them an upgrade to Vista Home Premium.
-
I just pulled the trigger on this machine. Hopefully there's nothing wrong.
-
I have also placed an order for this machine.
I looked around to see if newegg offers the vista upgrade coupons but couldnt find a clear-cut answer. Will this laptop be eligible? -
What graphics card is better?
-
the geforce go7700 is undoubtedly a small bit faster, but there is not enough difference for me to shell out the extra money for the a8js.
Also, while i'm not very educated when it comes to gpu's, I have read on these boards that the x1700 will get slightly better battery life and run cooler due to their manufacturing process. -
so is this price wrong?
and is there a warranty included in the price? -
also, does anyone think the original price of the A8J will go lower in May 07?

Well, if it's not normally available in North America, maybe some other market had overstock of A8Jp and NewEgg bought the extra at a discount. It should still come with some kind of warranty, especially if ASUS warranties are global anyways.
-
I would buy this machine today or tommorow or forget about it.
Thats my opinion. I mean you can call newegg and they will tell you how many are left, I would do that if youre waiting a few days.
This is a brand new machine also with the new stickers that came out in december. not an old cast off from asia or europe. -
Asus Vista Upgrade Site:
http://event.asus.com/vistaupgrade/index_usa.htm
"To deliver the latest features and applications, any ASUS notebook/ PC/ DVA Center purchased between October 26th, 2006 and March 15th, 2007 is eligible for the Express Windows Vista Upgrade Program." -
It's a great deal. My SZ360, which I returned, was $1,000 more, before rebate.
It had TPM and the ability to switch GPUs, but still!
I will just have to order this! Even though I'll have to go through the Windoze Vista install challenge, it's well worth it! -
Most intriguing. Any chance this'll hit Canada?
-
The deal from Newegg seems to be worth the price
I may get it tonight. What are the cons?
The games i would want to play on it would be CS:Source, Call of Duty 2, BF 1942, and many other FPSs. I hear the latest games need at least 2 gigs of ram? = /. But this is my first laptop so i dont want to get too greedy. I may buy this tonight.
Also, I am wondering about the 2 year global warranty. If i have a defective part within my Asus laptop, do i send it to Asus to fix the problem? What does this 2 year warranty cover? -

Personaly yes the A8jp is a good deal, it is cheap, effective and will do a great job in every way.
There aren't many cons when you compare it to the sister, the A8js.
A couple things to note, the A8jp comes with 2x512mb of ram, meaning upgrading to 2GB cost a lot more than putting 1x 1Gb of ram into the A8js.
Do you need 2GB to game? Yes and No, the X1700 is slightly less powerfull than the Go 7700, meaning to utilize 2GB of ram you need a more powerfull GPU in order to have more graphics, which uses more Ram.
That would also be another Con, the fact that the A8jp has a X1700 and the A8js has a Go 7700. Unless you really are a fan of ATI or Nvidia this may also sway your position.
I personaly like Nvidia since the drivers are simple and work well, but i do like ATI because they are also equally nice, just that the drivers are sometimes annoying to mess with. I personaly have an ATI GPU in my desktop.
Here's how I would compare the A8js to the A8jp when considering 2GB of ram.
The A8js comes with 1x 1GB of ram, and a Go 7700, so all you have to do is purchase another 1x1GB of ram, and add that to your total cost.
The a8jp comes with 2x512mb of ram, and a X1700, so you will have to purchase 2x1GB of ram, and add that to your cost.
Overall i found that you would pay roughly 100$ more for the A8js but end up with a better gpu, the Go 7700 512mb, but if you like ATI by all means go with the A8jp they are both very good laptops, and are basicaly the best in terms of price for performance in the 14" laptop range. -
It's a great deal, I ordered mine yesterday afternoon. I talked to a newegg rep a few hours ago and he said that they are out of stock, but the website says that they still have it. I reccomend that you bite now, they will be gone soon, if not already.
-
Not to mention that it comes with bluetooth pre-installed at no additional cost.
-
I'm extremely tempted, but with warranty, I noticed that Newegg didnt sell the Asus Global Warranty plan, but what about the standard warranty, is it 2 years global for North America also? (I don't have any experience with ASUS laptops).
-
I just made the order. I hear from everyone its a 2 year global warranty. And many have said it was under the specifictations tab, but i dont see it?
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=93970&page=2
this is the link where one member said the 2 year global warranty was covered.
What does this global warranty cover? What is the approximate day i will get this? -
-
weird, which brings the question; if vista is worth about 40-60 dollars more than windows xp/mc/pro or whatever, will we see a slight jump of price for current notebooks updated with vista early next year?
-
Hmm, I swear I saw 2 year warranty there somewhere. Under 'manufacturer information' it says 1 year, which would be odd since these are new models and all new North American ensembles are coming with 2 year warranty now..
-
-
so.... no warranty for this notebook? = /.... uh oh for me
-
2 year warranty
free upgrade to vista home premium -
ok thanks!.... is there a link of this 2 year warranty? i tried finding it in asus site bute i cant seem to find it. = /
-
Wow. I just paid $1700 from newegg for my W3J. This has a better video card, more hard drive space, and more ram. How the hell is it so cheap? Should I return my W3J for it?
-
I can't believe this. The specs on this thing are better than the W3J in every way, and that W3J is $400 more.
-
it doesnt have more ram.
the video card is not really much better than the x1600.
I think it would be wise to do that personally, to return it and get the a8jp though yes.
I would get the a8jp with its ram set up, I would buy 1gb with it and run 1.5 gb for a while
.
You can find the warranty at asus.com it will tell you all asus ensembles have a 2 year global warranty.
You can check the vista upgrade from media center at the vista upgrade site. -
thank you very much stamar
-
Newegg won't allow me to return to laptop unless it's defective, which it isn't. This deal is depressing now. I guess it's true what they say...when you buy new hardware, don't ever look at the ads for at least a year because you'll be disappointed with other good deals. Oh well. I like my W3J, but this deal is amazing.
-
I looked through Asus and they said something about a Notebook Warranty card. Will I get this in my purchase?
-
I never did.
You just register with their site. maybe mine is in the mail though -
I think that customers will have to buy the warranty plan because it was offered in newegg under the pics. Other than that, there is no where saying that the A8Jp comes with global warranty of Asus.
-
All Asus Notebooks Come With A 2 Year Global Warranty
If its an asus ensemble
that means it comes with a 2 year global warranty.
Look closely. Is it an asus notebook? Oh, then it comes with a 2 year global warranty.
There might be something out of date that says it comes with a 1 year warranty. Thats incorrect.
newegg might want to sell you another warranty. Dont buy it. -
Newegg has 37 of these left in stock.
-
sold out now
Someone might check once in a while to see if it comes back -
Newegg also lists the A8Js as having a 1 year warranty, but it is most definitely 2 years, just like every other current model Ensemble.
The devil is in the fine print:
-
the warranty cards are for extended warranty last I checked, the dealer I got my notebook from in taiwan offered an 1 year warranty extention card but i didn't think i'd need it
2 years is plenty.
-
I noticed that people were saying that the AJ8s seems to have light leak on the LCD for the laptop, anyone else with the A8JP notice this?
-
Light leakage is no worse than the Dell M70 I use for work, or the 20.1" Dell LCD I used to use for my gaming rig (actually the LCD is quite a bit worse).
As for warranty the Laptop comes with a sticker that indicates it has a 2 year global warranty. That should close the whole warranty issue. -
For the A8jp owners , does the laptop read xD cards as well? It seems that the A8js does, but form the newegg specs, the A8jp does not. Can someone verify this please?
-
From the specs at NewEgg ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16834220104):
Supplemental Drive
Card Reader MMC, SD, MS, MS PRO
Specs for the A8JS from Asus ( http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=61&l3=415&model=1373&modelmenu=2):
Card Reader SD/MMC/MS/MS PRO
It looks like they have the same card readers. xD technology proprietary to Fujifilm and Olympus, and pretty tightly held. I've only seen xD read capabilities on one card reader, so it may not be on any NB.
Edit: The A8Js review on Notebookreview and Milestonepc.com's description do both indiate the 8-in-1 reader on the A8Js does take xD cards. A stroll through the A8Js owners thread might shed more light.
