Hello. My A8JP is falling apart and its also constantly overheating. I'm using RM clock at the minimum voltage and low clock to prevent this--and it still gets HOT. Its out of waranty I think, but even if it were not, I doubt they'd service this for free.

I want to take out the processor, clean it off, and (re)apply any thermal paste and/or possibly buy a new fan and heat sink. Does anyone know where to buy these and which ones would be adequate? On top of this, I was wondering if there was a way to buy a new A8J chasis so that I can rebuild it.

    Thanks for any help.
    Dave.

Check out the Asus eStore, or contact your reseller for chassis parts.

Before you attempt this drastic fix, have you cleaned out the fan and vents yet? That might make a significant dent in your heat problem if your cpu/gpu are pushing above 75-80c.

Vents look clean. CPU often gets to 90c+ only browsing the internet... so I was thinking theres an issue with the heat sink. If I drop voltage to 0.95V and keep the clock around 1.1Ghz or less it stays arround 78c-85c (this makes it perform much less swiftly than my old Pentium-M notebook). My Windows Product Key on the bottom has been severely worn, turned brown/yellow and the middle of the sticker has fallen off at some point due to the heat.

edit: Is the HSF the "THERMAL MODULE ASSY"?

I still suggest thoroughly eliminating any possibility that this is due to dust (not just by visual inspection from the outside of the laptop). You would need to disassemble and look at the fans and (mostly) at the heatsink output ventilation grill/fins. That's where dust collects.

Then perhaps a thermal paste change is in order (be aware that removing heatsink to apply thermal paste voids warranty though).

If that doesn't do the trick, I would order the heatsink as well.

Thermal module assy looks like the heatsink, yes. You could call to ask.

And if the top case, bottom case, and lcd cover are all available on the estore, then yes, you can completely rebuild the outside of the notebook.
