    Hi All,

I got my A8JP last night and after installing the 2GB of RAM, I did a clean install of Windows. I used the latest drivers for everything, and used the ATI drivers posted on the Asus site for the A8JP. Everything installed successfully, and my buttons all work as well. I did not install Power4Gear, since the windows power management is sufficient for me.

I have set the close lid action and sleep button to "Do Nothing" in the Windows power management control panel. At night, I started streaming some music, closed the lid, and went to bed. This is what I always did with all my previous laptops.

In the morning when I opened the lid, I could not get anything to come up on the screen. The music was still playing and the hard drive was being read, so I know the laptop did not go to sleep. I tried using the Fn LCD button, I tried pressing keys, moving the mouse, etc... Nothing could get the screen to come back on. I had to do a hard-reboot to get a video signal back.

Does anybody have any idea about why this happened? It seems that when I close the lid, and after a while, when windows kicks the lcd into power saving mode, the video signal is gone for ever. Is anybody else experiencing anything like this?

    Thanks in advance!

I had that same problem with an older HP notebook and never discovered how to fix it. I ended up disabling sleep and hibernation modes to prevent from having to reboot b/c of a black screen.

I don't have hibernation enabled, and the notebook definitely wasn't sleeping because the music was still playing through media player. Very strange. I will see if it keeps happening.

Well, I was browsing on the Asus Forums for the A8JP under their support section and found a new post from someone experiencing the exact same problem.

Unfortunately I was unable to join as a member since their website is dead slow and keeps giving me a 404. I wanted to join in the discussion and post that I was having the same issue.

Can a kind soul in this forum please test this out for me? Overnight, just close the lid of your computer (don't put it to sleep). When you wake up check if opening the lid gets you a video signal. Maybe someone else can find out what I need to do to bring the LCD out of power saving mode.

Just out of curiosity what Video Driver are you using and are you using the BIOS that came with the A8JP, or an updated one?

I am using Driver 8.31 (from A8JP Asus Download Site) and I have updated to the latest (208) bios.

And the problem has happened under those updates? Well you could try switching back to the Driver and BIOS that came with the CD, which might help though I doubt it, still its worth a try.

There might be an automatic shutdown feature on the Screen which could explain the problem. Theoretically if an LCD screen remains unchanged for long periods you will get color anomalies (mainly a problem with the large plasma TVs) so this could just be a safety feature. I think your best bet though, is to try and get in contact with an Asus tech.
