I've been having this problem with this laptop for years, since windows Vista... When I install windows vista or windows 7 (currently with w7 x64), the fan doesn't work properly. If I turn the laptop on while it's cold, after a while in windows it starts to worm and the fan speed doesn't automatically increase. If I restart the laptop, @ bios it recognizes the cpu temperature and the fan blows. After that it works the way it should.

The laptop is old but still a nice machine and I want to take it with me while I attend a private flying school. Are there any solutions for this? Hardware changes, software (fan controlling software, drivers...) or bios modifications?

    Thanks!

Have you tried to move on 32-bit version of Win7? I realize my ASUS A8Js have higher average temperature when I'm using 64-bit version. Though, I have no problem with fan not working as it suppose to.
