My laptop was on battery and max battery setting on XP, and I was burning a cd while screen was turned off or very dark. I closed the lid and I put laptop in my backpack for about 2minutes because I had to get on bus. I then tried to turn on laptop, and didn't turn on.

I came home tried AC power and still it doesn't turn on.
Disconnect battery and use AC only, still no go.

Please help me, I need my laptop for school. Thank you in advance!

Try removing the optical drive, then boot.

Used the no start guide posted in here worked until just now. The computer suddenly dies again!

I hope is overheat problem and I need to clean the vents, does cleaning vent void the warranty buy opening the chassis?

Wait, did you put your laptop in the backpack while it was on max settings (CPU speed) and burning a CD? Then it might be that some component has overheated and burned.

Generally speaking, laptops should NEVER run without proper ventilation (especially when maxed out -- which they should never be except when running software that really does take 100% CPU). Furthermore, they shouldn't be jerked around while writing CDs, writing will fail (even a small bump can cause it to fail, I've done it twice).

It was on max battery setting, and was in backpack for only 2 minutes max.
Now the laptop turns on and then turns off in less than 1 seconds acording to the green leds.

Do i need to call Asus or retailer I got my a8js from because I purchased with upgrades?

I was able to pull off the temps off fan speed:
    cpu 45C
    HD 37C
    gpu 45C

2 minutes should be ok on max battery. However, from your description it still seems like something overheated...

Is the fan running when it starts up?

How were you able to pull the temps if it just runs for 1 second? BIOS? The temps are runnable btw.

If you have any peripherals you can try removing them first. Then you can try taking out HDD and one of the memory chips (if you have two). And you can try to let it sit for a few hours. Other than that, there's nothing to do but RMA.

If you had it modded by the reseller, ASUS might refuse warranty so it's best to go through the reseller. But usually they are quite relaxed in these things -- except if the added/changed components caused the fault.

Oh and btw there's the good old procedure:

take out AC power and battery
push power button for 20 seconds, a few times
then insert AC power and try to boot

Last night I was able to use it for 30minutes after I use the no start guide posted here, so I pulled temps off, and while I was about to install NHC it died before i click install.

Fans were running and I could feel the warm air when it was in XP, boot up was hard to feel warm air.

The laptop is cooled down after a night of rest, should I still wait few hours after taking a memory out?

The reseller I purchased my laptop from is milestonepc.com US site. Do I get back my upgraded parts(2GB RAM, 100GB 7200RPM HD) If I RMA?

    UPDATE:
Looks like the laptop is dead. I tried switching memory still just turns on and turns off less than 1second. Called milestonepc but couldn't get a hold of them, looks like I have to RMA ASUS.

You will probably receive them back unless they are the cause of the problem, otherwise they (a) might refuse to service warranty/ask for payment or (b) might replace the faulty component with the "default" for that ensemble model.

Before sending to ASUS though try emailing / PMing milestonepc.

Thank you everyone for helping me out. I never thought this would happen to me, bad year start :( I have pm and emailed milestonepc.com and hopefully they will respond. If not I think I'll keep the upgraded gig of ram and RMA asus.

E.B.E I'm not sure what do you mean by default component for a8js ensemble, did you mean putting a8jM motherboard in there as it was default for a8j?

I mean that for instance, if the 7200RPM upgraded drive is the cause of the fault (unlikely, just an example) then they might replace it with the default 5400RPM whateverGB that is the default for the A8Js.
