well my laptop is hot as hell right now its on my bed, on a different. 10 minutes ago I tried to play godfather and it worked fine then it just shut off, tried to turn it back on but no cake. Checked the if the ac plug was on right and BAM holly hell the whole top right corner of my book was hot as hell. so i unplugged it and is sitting down right now. Anyone know what could be wrong?

well its nothing to worry about as of now
just let it cool down and then switching it on to check if everything is in working order after it has cooled down
over heating in the laptop may have been caused as you may have been bloacking a vent and therefore cutting of air circulation which is the only way for the fans to cool down the laptop
next time make sure that you use it on a hard surface

Even if something is damaged. It might not be something serious. One of my friend's laptop overheated(the poor M1210 was on and it was in the bag for 2 hours) and he only had to replace the RAM.

Well generally they don't recommend you placing a laptop on a bed since it's easy to block off vents. The sheets probably act as an insulator and reduce airflow compared to a flat, open table surface.

In theory it should be okay, since the shut-off mechanism is a safety measure to stop things before things really start breaking.

Try spraying the vents with compressed air in case your heat sink has dust on it, it worked for me. I had the same problem a couple of days ago.

Why? I don't think it can do anything unless you allow it to do so.

programs like NHC help you set a critical temperature
when your core or the GPU reaches that temperature it alerts you
and a bit higher and it switches off
which is quite useful at times
    but not always

Even without those programs there is a temperature limit where the BIOS will shut the notebook down. (I think and hope :D)

Do a search, but i remember with the A8Jm series speedfan was causing the fan to stop spinning. I dont remember the exact details. This might hold true for the A8Js as well.
