Recently, ive been sent a PM about the instantON button. I just realized mine doesn't work to its specification, it just boots up windows and THEN launches ASUSDVD. Isn't it suppose to launch something, not windows, while the PC is OFF?

Yep, mine doesn't work either. Quote from the ASUS user manual:
Is there someway to get this working? It's a quite nice feature to have available.

Has anyone got this to work? This would be a very valuable function to have.

I own an A8ja. Have the same problem. I contacted my local ASUS service center and they told me that the play dvd without booting windows is a printing error. It is suppose to boot windows and open the asusdvd. Kinda disappointed but i wasnt looking for this function with i bought it, so it ok.

i bet you they're lying to cover up an error. That's the same description on the website, about the instantON. Course, we all know how "reliable" that asus website is.

my instant on doesnt work either.

when the puter is on, it does nothing when i press it.
when the puter is off, it boots up windows then opens up asus dvd.

interestingly, looking at the taiwanese manual, that same button is called "instant FUN". it says something along the lines of "this button works only if the model has instant fun ability". no where does it explain what "instant fun" is supposed to do, it doesnt say anything about playing dvd without booting windows.

c'mon asus, work it out amongst yourselves!

Well.. looks like we have 2 non-functioning buttons on our notebooks here in Canada. The BT and InstantON button have no use... wonder if we can re-assign to do something else?

I was just talking to a tech support rep from ASUS. He said they're aware of the problem and have sent it to headquarters to investigate. Said, hopefully won't take long to fix.

I also read somewhere about another version of A8 in which the button works, and the issue? -> dedicated vs integrated graphics. Somehow without dedicated graphics, it loads the external media player fine.
