Keeping in mind that I'm not going to be gaming on this computer, is the difference between the A8Jm and the A8Jc worth the extra money to me? The only difference I can see in the specs is the video card.

Its worth if you game. Or use apps that need a good card otherwise it will be fine. also if you are keeping this laptop for a while vista will run with intel graphics but will run better with a separate GPU to take advantage of the aero effects.

I really doubt I'll be doing any gaming at all on this machine; I've got a desktop that I'll be using for that. This laptop will be used for:

Microsoft Office (90% Word, 10% Excel)
computer programming (Java, C++, Python, etc.)
    watching DVDs

Dont bother goin for the A8Jm then. The A8Jc comes with a 7400 or 7300 if i remmember and they're both decent cards. You can still game on them pretty decent, even on games like FEAR, they can pull decent frames on medium detail.

the a8jm comes with a go7600, which performs better than teh x1600 in 3dmark06, but the difference is neglible. Id say go with the a8jm if you aren't afraid to ditch out the money.

The X1600 does better in 3dmark05 though and for your info, the X1600 supports some of the shaders in DX10, meaning a X1600 will perform waay better than a 7600 in future DX10 games coming this fall/winter.
