Trying to decide between the two. Needs, Great screen, good batterylife, no much of a gamer. Web conferencing not important.

Being the A8jm from P1 is a newer release, I was leaning that way. However I would then have to consider adding The transreflective screen, + $399, puts me a little over budget. From what I have read the IPS screen on the V6va is excellent.
As far as the V6va, I've seen prices as low as 1500, from Buy.com and zipzoomfly. Excalober and C9 are selling them for $1825 and 1795. They all have the same manufactures model #90NFAAD31776806L3V so I ASSUME all the specs are the same, although Buy and Zip don't really list the specs. That makes me a little nervous. I don't mind spending a little extra to buy from a better reseller, but $300 is way to much. I'm also concerned that buy or zip could send me V6v w/out IPS.
    Any thoughts would be appreciated.

All V6va's have IPS screens, so you should just make sure the laptop has an x700, if it doesn't, it doesn't have an IPS screen.

I just checked both Buy and Zip for their V6Va listings. They definitely are selling V6Va notebooks at those excellent prices, which are $100 less than their prices since last week!! That puts the V6Va at $1484 at Buy and $1499 at Zip after the rebate. Buy and Zip must be trying to clear out their inventory. Buy has a separate listing for the V6V which is even cheaper. I also checked Buy's return policy. From everything I read, it looks like their 30-day return applies to the V6Va, too. Guess where I'm gonna buy my V6Va from as soon as I get home in about 20 minutes? :D

I'm not going to game on my V6Va. It's strictly a work notebook, so I don't think a few extra seconds to load programs will pose a problem. If I find I need a faster hard drive I'll look for a good deal on a 5400RPM drive.

You really can't compare the A8Jm and V6Va. The V6 series is a good as it gets from Asus.

I just ordered my V6Va from Buy.com!!! I found a $15 off Buy.com coupon at Techbargains so my total came to $1669 shipped. ;)

I had a credit card problem that prevented me from ordering about two weeks ago. In the end it ended up saving me about $130 before the rebate. :p

    Me a happy Jack!!! :D :D :D

When you get used to the IPS screen, everything else looks like dirt.

Argh, I hope IPS becomes more of a standard soon...or at least have a model or two with it...hopefully from ASUS ;)

its not good because of the responce time. Its good because of the contrast colors and the viewing angles. responce time on it is average.

Once you factor in the $200 rebate the V6Va price drops below $1500. Buy.com's V6V is listed at $1499 before the rebate, but it doesn't have the IPS screen + ATI X700.

If you buy from Buy.com, is it just a one year warranty? If so, how do you get aat least another year extended warranty? Thanks. I am considering this V6Va now for its excellent screen which I could probably see okay with my poor vision and it is also very portable too.

The V6va has 2 years of international warranty, ASUS made a booboo and forgot about changing it back to 1 year.

There's nothing to fear about Buy.com. It's one of the biggest and oldest online resellers. I read and re-read the return policy and found nothing that said notebooks can't be returned. Not that I expect to return my V6Va, but it's reassurig to know that I could if necessary. Other resellers, like ZipZoomFly and NewEgg, only exchange defective notebooks. In other words, once you buy, you're stuck with it.

I'll definitely post pics & comments. I chose the free shipping option, so it'll be mid- to late next week before it arrives. I've already got my new Booq PowerSleeve ready and waiting for my new notebook.

I am sure you will enjoy your V6Va as much I do. The screen is THAT good. Everything else looks pale in comparison. I paid $2000+ for mine last year. I still consider that money well spent.
