I installed Vista a couple of weeks ago, and recently I've been having a problem with my laptop randomly shutting off. I felt the bottom of the laptop and it was scalding hot, likely the CPU overheating. I'm not sure why it's doing this, it could be problem with the fan triggering.
I had NHC installed for a short period of time, but I don't think I changed any settings and if I did, I'm sure a reverted the changes before uninstalling.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Most importantly: Is the fan working at all?
Did you clean the fan and heatsink recently? If not, please do so, there's a disassembly guide, and a notebook cleaning guide, on the ASUS Info Booth.
Are you always running the CPU at full blast? You shouldn't do that, it should be on a performance-on-demand profile. you can use for instance RMClock to control the CPU frequency. Power4Gear has similar functions.
Also, make sure the GPU is downclocking in Vista. Check its clocks with RivaTuner. If you use a PerformanceOnDemand profile with RMClock, it should downclock automatically. -
The fan is working, and I've cleaned the fan, heatsink and vents.
My problem seems to be is that my fans can't trigger coming from a cold boot. What ends up happening is the CPU heats up to critical temp then auto shuts off, unless I intervene before this point. After I reboot the computer, my fans are working at full blast, blowing out the very hot air from my laptop.
Would this be a problem with my drivers/ACPI?
