Well, they probably do, but I'm in Canada (they import it from Canada and is priced a tad higher...) and I'll prob get hit by crazy duties at the border, which would be pointless + BT isn't really that important to me right now. I got an external one for $12...

R u in Canada or US?

I'm getting pretty close to making up my mind on choosing between the A8Jm and the Z96j.

The two things I'm wondering about are the video and the battery life. I'm curious about which one will work better with games in the future and which has a longer battery life for general use?

Well, the A8Jm does have 512 MB dedicated RAM, and although right now it's comparable in performance with the x1600 with 256MB ded and 256MB HT of Z96J, maybe future games will make use of the dedicated RAM, so I'd say A8Jm slightly favoured in gaming.

Battery life... well dunno about Z96J's life, but I think it has the capability of using a bigger 9 cell battery, while the A8Jm is limited to the 6 cell it has, with almost no possibility in the future of a new battery due to its placement at the near middle bottom of the notebook. So I guess Z96J would win in this case... but then again, you could always get a spare battery for the A8Jm :)

I don't really want to get a bigger battery for a laptop that will bulk out of it.

Doesn't the ATI card use some of the system ram if it is available? I don't really know how any of that works though. I was just wondering if I had 2 gigs of system ram that it might not be an issue.

I guess this makes me lean towards the A8Jm since most of the gaming i'd be doing would be an external monitor.

Yes... HM = HyperMemory... ATI talk for borrowing system memory when needed (comparable nvidia talk = TC (TurboCache). It wont be an issue if you have large system RAM, but no matter how fast that might be, still won't be faster than dedicated RAM which is onboard the graphics card.

Edit: Corrected ... should be HyperMemory instead of HT :) Thanks Donald..

Hmmm, Darrick I hate to correct but it is HyperMemory which is essentially similar to nVIDIA's TurboCache (HT=HyperThreading is about the Pentium 4 processor).

The rest of what you say is indeed correct. :D

I guess I'll continue with my choice of the A8Jm, since the battery life is probably better for it too, and it sounds like it has a brighter screen.

I'd probably be gaming on an external monitor and doing the majority of my graphic intesive work on it too, so I think the DVI will be helpful and the extra vid card ram.

Just get the A8Jm from Portable One. Like I said before, they will be the first to get the BT modules from ASUS for this notebook. They will deliver.

Well, I just got back from an event where I used my A8Jm for the main purpose I bought it for- multimedia presentations. A little overkill but it was perfect. All the ports were in ideal places to hook up external equipment and it performed flawlessly. It really does seem a lot smaller than the Acer 5672 that it replaced. Perfect balance between screen size and portability. She's a keeper. I need to come up with name for it. I usually name my computers after motorcycles since that is one of my businesses http://www.motobikeblog.com My last laptop was named Ducati. Any suggestions?
