I've had my A8Jp for a week now and have been very happy with it. I've got it set up to go into hibernate when I close the lid. However when I open the lid nothing happens; I have to press the ON-button. Seems a bit silly, why would I want to open the screen and not want the PC to turn on. I'm hoping there's a setting someplace, maybe in the bios, to make it turn it self on automatically whenever I open the lid. Any ideas?

I dont have an asus laptop but i always thought if i run my laptop off an external monitor and keyboard, i would still have to open the laptop lid to press the power button to start the computer.

unless their is another way to power the laptop up.???????????????

    thanks.

    John.

I'm afraid there is no other way to turn it back on besides the power button, there just isn't.

If you like to quickly resume working after closing the lid, then perhaps the best way is to set the lid close action to "do nothing" and when you close the lid, the LCD goes off and on once you open it. The notebook is left on. Another alternative is "standby", but thats just a lesser version of hibernate :D

    What Slic said.

There may be some setting in Power4Gear (or whatever that Asus power control app is called). I'm still getting used to how it interacts with power control/screen control. Not sure I like it.

My Compaq does reload to the logon screen when I close/open the lid without pressing the power button. It's running XP Home and the A8JP runs XP MCE. That might have something to do with it.

No such setting in Power4Gear, this only runs the cpu and lcd settings, along with customizing the timeouts for standby/hibernate.

OS doesn't play a role in it either, the Compaq must have some feature that does an automatic hibernate/standby recover when you re-open the lid.

Did you look at the review? It gives you FPS on FEAR and a bunch of other games.

Here's another site running games on an A8Jp (though the site is in chinese). Its running Oblivion! Take a look.

You'll get an idea of it's capabilities in the Notebook Review forum. Beefdonkey just did a pretty in-depth review of it and there's lots of info there.

    1. Tinderbox I think I've confused you a bit. This has nothing to do with external monitors or keyboards. I'm using the laptop by itself. It's just that I've seen friends laptops boot up automatically when you open the screen. But with the Asus you have to open the lid and then press the on button. It's a bit superfluous.

    2. Thanks for the replies guys. I've searched high and low for that setting and was hoping that I was missing something obvious. I guess considering the price/specification ratio I can tolerate this minor issue. Who knows, they might add such an option to the bios one day.

    3. iamjss you're a little off-topic; you should probably have started a new post. According to this review http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=3425&review=Asus+A8JP you will get 52 fps in FEAR. There's really no time limit. I haven't noticed any heat issues; just don't block any of the vents ;-)
