I've purchased my laptop about 2 months ago and all I've had since I got it is problems. Support is very poor. I am very unhappy with my purchase atm.

I upgraded to vista. Everything worked fine for about a week. I could edit photos with photoshop and listen to my music in itunes. Would you believe, I could even use my laptop wirelessly outside!! Everything sounding like a dream right? Well yet again my bubble has been burst. Now every freaking time windows does its update. The wireless refuses to work when you press the keyboard button. The familiar "intel muroc utility" error surfaces. The only way I've been able to get it to work again is by restoring the system to a previous date. I had to restore it about twice a week and I've been doing that for about three weeks. Now restore isn't working and I've run out of ideas.

Someone PLEASE help me for the sake of my laptop. All I want to do Is use this thing without all this garbage going on. I just want a smooth running system. Is that to hard to ask???

I will not be purchasing an ASUS in the future because of poor support and driver releases.

Thanks for letting me vent. I really hope someone can lend me a simple hand so I can be on my way enjoying my $2000 that I had to work damn hard to earn.

Are you sure this is Asus' fault and not Vista's?

Why not go back to XP? Did you get any of these errors or problems prior to upgrading to Vista?

    Wait a minute,
Has the intel utility [under Vista] have the option of : "Use windows to manage Wi-Fi" ?

If you want to be SURE it's hardware based or software based, install another OS, and compare. That's the ONLY way to be 100% sure. It could be Vista or XP fault, it could be Asus softwares fault, it could be a real hardware problem with your A8. If you want to be sure, you have to test each element individually.

But from your "The only way I've been able to get it to work again is by restoring the system to a previous date. ", I would say it's a software problem. If it was hardware, it should happen all the time. That's not always true, but usually it's the case.

Is it because the intel wireless is not installed? anyway, i did not install intel's software and nothing happened. Most probably you'll just need to reinstall ATK0100 drivers and Vista will be able to recongnise the hotkey. So it's just a wireless hotkey button problem i presume. It is easily solved if you take a step back, relax, and look for solutions. ;)
It's safe to ignore that as you can go to Vista's mobility center and enable/disable your wireless.

I beg to differ...Asus does have a good driver release.

Worst case scenario is to restore back to XP.

It sounds like it could be an Asus issue. So far, Asus hasn't released the free Vista upgrade CDs to folks who qualified (in the U.S. anyway), which I understand is because they were late in finishing the drivers (as were a lot of other manufacturers). So, if Windows Update tried to patch a file that was not Vista compatible, you'd develop a problem. Couple of things:

    1. Asus support in the U.S. (don't know where you are in the world) is excellent. If you're trying the online support, yes they can be slow and language barriers can be a problem. But I've found it OK for basic stuff. You have a 1 or 2 year warranty on your system. You can send it in and have them check it out.

    2. There are a couple of threads on NBR for going back to XP from Vista. It's not as straightforward as a simple re-install. There've been a couple of threads on going back to XP from Vista. Maybe someone can post links (I can't find them right now). A search for something like vista XP should turn up some helpful info.

    Hope this helps.

sorry about last night, I was really tired and fustrated . I installed the atk100 driver and all is well now. I'll see how long it lasts. I also believe windows update is installing something incompadible, but I'm not sure what.

I'm in Australia, this forum is really my only support fix. I really like vista and all it's features, so going back is not an option for me.

Thanks guys, I love you all :D

I don't like my A8jp either... but your problems are not the Asus's fault, they are either you:

Installing extra crap**** drivers from Asus that you don't need
    Vista's problems
