So this is my first post, hello everybody.
After reading tons of reviews and post in here, I decided to do something productive, too.
I bought the Book over www.mediafrost.de for 1414 € + 129 € for the Warranty Extension Package. It has following specifications:

I'm sorry, i did not find my camera, so i had to use my W810i for taking the pictures... I'm also sorry for the mess in my living room. I guess its better to open the pictures in a new tab.
Later i will add some pics and some benchmarks like SuperPi...

Any news about GF7700 version?? I'm checking MediaFrost every day hoping to see it
Well, I guess I have to spend a little more time with my W3
-
So how's the gaming performance? Drool... drool......
-
The GF7700 got around 11K in 3dmark03. I forgot the site but its in the forums somewhere and its in translated chinese, go its so crazy. [Amen Warfare] great purchase and nice pics!
-
3DMark06 Basic Edition Score: 2140
Don't know if this is good or bad... never had such a powerful machine. I must say, that I couldn't change the standard settings of the Benchmark, so I do not know if it was the Benchmark the PC needed.
/M -
2140. May be good may be bad. If it was on stock drivers than I guess it's fine, will be better with Omega's or something. X1600 with DDR3 (W3) 2200 @ stock clocks with Catalyst 6.8
-
Yeah, every test i did was with stock drivers...

Great, thanks for sharing with us.
At stock drivers, your 3DMark06 is good, also doa 3DMark05 test, PcMakr05.
Then you may want to upgrade the drivers to either the latest Catalyst or use Omega and re-do the test to see the performance increase.
Also, do a batterylife test by putting the screen brightness as low as possible but make sure it is still easily readable. Wifi on, and do light tasks like surf the net and word documents.
Then describe to us how the viewing angles are, horizontal and veritcal, and quite possibly show us pictures of it.
Lastly test the scaling ability of the screen, can the screen handle lower resolutions other than native and still look good? So take your laptop, drop the resolution of the background and then also play games at a lower resolution.
Thanks!, and Enjoy your laptop!

Three questions:
1. What kind of screen does A8Jp have ?
2. Does somebody know for sure will Europe ever see A8Js with GF Go 7700 inside ? I would really like to know that because I want to buy that one, if there isn't planned for Europe then I would go for A8Jp.
3. To amen warfare: What do you think about screen resolution ? Is 1440x900 too small for 14" screen ? I think that I would rather love 1280x800 instead. -
I have the same resolution on my 19" Screen and its fine on both... I have good eyes and need the space and if its too small you can still change the dpi of the letters, can't you?

Also to say it WONT be for sale is entirely market speculation based on the last models.... -

Congradulations.
Do you think you could try to find out the clock speeds of your MR X1700. Given the fact that the A8J with the Go 7700 uses low cost DDR2 400 memory, I've got a feeling that ASUS is skimping on the A8Jp's MR X1700 too. That would explain why between the MR X1700 and Merom, your computer doesn't noticably lead the W3J's MR X1600. -
-
Mastha whatever happened to the benchmark results of the W3J and the A8Jm lol i guess its too late now ...
but looking at the A8Js does that mean we should be able to swap out our lcds for the 1440 ones from teh A8Js ? -

I think that's enough
@ Darrick : no, I'm just crazy about laptopsbut DDR2 400 in GF7700?? Hmm, I guess I will stay with my W3j's DDR3
@ Zydus : swaping the lcd's? Hmm sounds good but I don't know if it's possible in W3, in A8 should be no problem -

You can see a picture of the RAM on page 5 at the bottom. If you search it you will find:
http://www.techpowerup.com/articles/overclocking/vidcard/106
Infineon HYB18T512161BF-25 32MX16 DDR2 400MHz FBGA 84 Lead Free
Certainly disappointing. I should point out since you do a lot of overclocking that some M56P MR X1600s actually use:
Hynix HY5RS123235FP-14 16MX32 GDDR3 700MHz FBGA 136 Lead Free M56P
Those are modules originally meant for the desktop X1600XT. If someone happens to have that in their W3J, that would definitely be an overclocking gem. -
How can I check memories on GPU? Do I have to open the laptop or there is some program to do that?
-
And another thing: Does it really matter if A8Js 7700 uses DDR2 memory ? It still outruns A8Jp X1700 by fair margin. -
ltcommander_data Notebook Deity
The type of memory is significant in the sense that GDDR3 runs cooler and uses less heat which is something everyone can benefit from. The use of GDDR3 also implies higher stock clock speeds and therefore better performance. It would also imply higher overclocking room if you are interested in that.
In terms of the A8Js' Go 7700 beating the A8Jp's MR X1700 despite DDR2 that is true. However, the W3J with Yonah and MR X1600 seems to match the A8Jp, which implies that a W3J with Merom will be even faster than the A8Jp. That basically means that the Go 7700 may be newer and have more pipelines, but isn't really much faster than the W3J with Merom and it's higher clock MR X1600. Personally, for me it just makes me feel better that if I were to choose the Merom W3J, I wouldn't be sacrificing performance for build quality. -
When the x1600 was released it came in regular and hd.
I do believe it was released in an asus notebook, and it might have been the a8ja.
The regular version had ddr2 and the hd version had ddr3.
You can go ahead and google the ati x1600 hd, thats the version most notebooks have that are for sale in the us. But they dont advertise it. I think the acer 5672 has the regular version.
Anyhow, count on both of these cards having a ddr3 version as well just following how video cards are released and the recent past.
When a x1700 gets to NA it will have ddr3 because it has to compete with the x1600 with ddr 3 as well.
Now, the 7600 wasnt the same case when it was released, in the a8jm initially. But it follows logic that it will follow the same pattern.
I just want to point out that the memory used is not permanent to the model number. -
-
A8Js and A8Jp have higher resolution screen (1440x900) compared to A8Jm and W3J (1280x800) !
Under same setup performance increase should be much higher... -
There the waiting starts again. I don't think it should take much time to implement the new cards into the V1J (and other models).
Fingers crossed. -
3marks are done on the same resolution (05:1024x768 / 06:1280x1024), I guess someone have to buy it and check for himself
BTW : besides I'm not afraid, second 1gb Corsair stick is on the way, so all future A8jp's owners - bring it on!!Heheh just kidding, I'm shi..ing my pants
A8Jp just arrived! First pictures!
