Yesterday I was using my A8Js when its backlight suddenly went out (sans a tiny barely visible bright area on the right side of the screen.) I ended up simply restarting the laptop and it worked fine.

Today I had the same thing happen. This time I decided to play around a little. Whenever I turned the brightness up or down the backlight would return for a second or two then go out again. After I did this a few times it decided to go back to full brightness.

What might have caused this? Has anyone noticed something like this happen on their Asus laptop? I'm thinking that if it's happened twice then it's bound to happen again. Any advice appreciated - thanks!

I'm reviving this thread, as I've been experiencig the same problem recently. Certain games or graphically intensive 3d applications turn the monitor off. Seems to happen when the CPU is running full speed. Any ideas?

I got this problem when I installed notebook hardware control 2.0, uninstalled it and all is fine again after that.

Not sure if there is an connection.

I too have experienced this with my A8Jp and also found that it only occured with Notebook Hardware Control running.

Never could figure out why it caused that.

So, I simply turned NHC off when playing games or just didn't use it at all.

Yep, it does seem to be an ACPI -related problem (power management)

I'd suggest removing any 3rd party power management software such as RMClock, NHC etc.
