Would it be possible to transplant the same high-res 14.1" lcd that the A8Js uses into a W3J? Is it even possible to buy just the lcd itself?
-
You can't buy the screen standalone, so the only way is to buy a A8js and swap it over, which will void both warranty's which will be a utter waste, and you'll have two laptops hah. Even then, I'm not sure if the wiring is the same.

It would be nice if you could do that, but as Coriolis mentioned this is very costly and will be voiding warranty, and no guarantees that it will work.
The VBI system is specially created for things like this, where you can interchange Screens and other parts, however the A8js nor W3J are VBI systems.
Unfortunately this makes it hard for people to chose from A8js and W3J, some want higher resolutions with the chasis of the W3J, some want DVI, some want the thinner chasis and looks. This doesn't make it easy for people looking for 14" performance laptops. -
Unfortunately, you can't get the best of both worlds(Ah, but one can dream though!).

Yes, you can buy LCD's standalone, including 14.1" 1440x900 LCD's. You should say "I don't know if you can" if you don't know, rather than saying something that's wrong. It will take some work and research to see if they have the correct interface and support, though. But you will void your warranty. -
Whoops, I completely forgot about that, I was looking through the ASUS E-Store and didn't see that there.

the parts are not compatible because the w3j screen is 14.0 inch and the a8js screen is 14.1 inch
although the resolution of the a8js is higher the response time of the w3j screen is better. -
Woh.. talk about deja vu.
As Stamar mentioned, it's impossible. The W3J has a different screen ratio than the ones found on the A8j series. -
Oh danny!!!!
The a8js uses a VBI screen. Exactly like you are talking about. The auo part used is on the vbi list.
Not the w3j screen.
Just to clear those things up and further clarify that it isnt going to work.
A8Js 1440x900 screen in a W3J.
