Looks like the A8Js is really Go7700 with WXGA+ (1440x900)... I wonder if that Go7700 is swappable with the 7600 in the A8Jm... hmm

Hmm I wonder what will be faster - 7700 or 7600GT??
-
I don't have time to read the thread... Is that MXM technology?
-
Asus is also coming out with the X1650 in their V1j. According to another post on this forum it is supposed to have double the pixel pipelines. 12 vs. 24! That should close to double its performance and make it closer to the high end 7900 series. Now.. I'm just curious what the specs of the 7700 go will be? Will they just about match those of the X1650?

here's tech spec from japanese test of Go 7700
1024×768×32
3DMark2005
4274
3DMark2006
2966
1024×768
DOOM3
100.5 FPS
Half Life2
151.57 FPS.
Go7700 rocks...and it will be MXM II: that means it will be possibe to upgrade from 7600 or x1600 to 7700. -
1600 is not MXM AFAIK. It's Axiom or something like that. But if it's true...OMG!!
But scores are not so high. I expect about 5000 in 05 and 3500 in 06.

I think you have one of asus a8 first possible notebook upgrades.
The difference though is that unlike dell I dont think Asus ever sells these things. Youd have to find a dead one someday on ebay.
Ok so the heres a question, if all the other components of the laptop are up to date, how many generations of graphics cards do you think asus might put in the a8 series.
This is just a marketing based speculation. Its got the yonah chipset, so when the santa rosa is made there needs a new motherboard. All Im thinking is that there could possibly be lets call it the 8600 and 8700 sold in the same laptop in months.
Ok and a more important speculation.: This reviewer obviously has a review a8js so how long until they are for sale in NA?
Lets keep in mind, this takes them absolutely no time to manufacture right? They have all the notebooks already in taiwan. All that is new is 7700 go.... -
i think the difference in performance isnt significant enough compared to the 7600 and i doubt i'll even notice it in games.

Essentially the MR X1700 is exactly the same as the MR X1600. There is no doubling of pipelines. It doesn't look like there was a shrink either. The difference is that the MR X1600 is produced using TSMC's 90nm process and the MR X1700 is produced at UMC using what looks like their "improved 90nm process". Really "improved" is just a title and there isn't much difference. It's like the RV515 to RV516 relationship in desktop. The MR X1700 might be a bit faster, but that's just due to slightly higher clocking rather than a core redesign.
For more information you can see the links I had in this post:

For example, examining the picture of the MR X1700 in the Taiwanese review and comparing it to ATI's chip shot of the MR X1600 we see that they are identical including chip size and capacitor positioning. This further indicates that the difference is just production at a difference fab rather than a new core.
The third link in that above posts claims that nVidia already launched the Go 7700 and gives various 3DMark scores of nVidia's entire Go lineup. Based on the differences, especially since there is only a 100 point difference of the Go 7700 over the Go 7600, it's likely that the Go 7700 was virtually the same as the Go 7600. Probably only slightly higher clock speeds and driver tweaks making up the difference.
Neither the Go 7700 or the MR X1700 look to be significant improvements over their predecessors. They're just newer with higher names. -
it seemed like nvidia was using the number game to make consumers think they are getting a far superior product (hey 7700 is bigger than 7600 so its gotta be better right?) and to that ATI responded with the classic "anything you can do i can do better" and released the x1700 ...you get the picture. so what have we learned today? dont buy into the hype. shame on you nvidia, ATI.

If X1600/GF7600 + OC = X1700/GF7700, there is no reason to update. Besides it's to close now to DX10 cards so I think it's pointless to buy newest (more expensive) cards at the moment. It's better to collect some extra money and wait for something REALLY NEW.
