None of the Core 2 Duos have physically left Taiwan yet..... and it's usually always 2 weeks from Taiwan to Asus, and another week to get them to process them and get them to us... so once they ship, it's usually at LEAST three weeks till they're ready for shipping and those usually go out to backorder customers first... so it'll probably be November before they're really ready to say be "ordered and ship the next day" .

I agree with you in that it is hyped as far as internet leakage.

Especially when you consider how long it may take before you can buy one. This is way way in advance as far as a computer product.

Theres just tons of stuff to read about it but where is it?

I really want one too as you can tell.
Its a lot of money for me but I can see its just exactly what i want.

Hype is somewhat inaccurate to be calling it. It's really speculation on current trends in the way ASUS updates their line of notebooks.

Manufacturer almost like to keep a secret, the hype is from internal to spread out. If the consumers are waiting for a latest version of models, the previous models will be stayed them in warehouse.
    Cheers

well I just emailed asus and nvidia asking when it would get released. I think we should make a rota to email them, maybe do it every other day or something.

I had a chance to speak to the notebook product manager for Asus (Aus & NZ) late last week. Bad news... looks like we won't see it until November down here.

Sorry to hear that. I've suddenly become really aggrivated with some of Asus' vendoring policies. Why for instance doesn't Asus ship F3Jm's with a WSXGA+ screen to North America? That would be my 'perfect' laptop. I'd like to have more than 1200x800 resolution for graphics work on a 15.4" laptop, its rediculous that that can't be accomplished.

    Oh well

Hmm. Now we finally see where these new labtops fall. A A8Jp with a MR X1700 and a T5600 got 3722 stock on 3DMark05 while the A8Js with Go 7700 and a T7200 got 4283 stock. For reference a W3J with MR X1600 and T2500 got 3949 stock. Given the fact that the W3J review is more than 2 months old and was probably at least 1 driver revision behind the A8Jp and A8Js, it's likely that with Merom and the latest drivers a W3J will get between 4000-4100. It's good to know that if I do get a Merom W3J instead of a A8Js, the Mr X1600 isn't far behind a Go 7700 at all. The reason being that both the A8Jp and A8Js appear to use DDR2 memory clocked at under 400MHz while the W3J uses GDDR3 to match it's higher price.

I'm going to hold out for the A8js still. The 1440x900 resolution is calling to me.

I've been looking at get a laptop (my 1st one) and I have pretty much narrowed it down to the A8Js. It was between Asus, Acer, & Compal. I like the Asus good reputation, the Core 2 Duo, and the nVidia Go7700. I also like that this laptop has LAN and DVI ports in the back, as I feel on the side connections are cumbersome. I also prefer DVI over a VGA port. However the only thing holding me back is that Windows Vista is right around the corner and directx 10 with it. How long before laptops get directx 10 chips? Will the DVI port have HDCP? Is anyone else waiting because of these same reasons?

I wouldn't read too much into the 3DMarks score... The 7600 usually gets a much lower score than the x1600 but in real games they perform about the same. Check the sticky x1600 vs 7600.

    According to this:
    http://translate.google.com/transla...&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&prev=/language_tools

Where they test games the 7700 vs x1700, the 7700 seems a much better performer. The Geforce 7700 looks very interesting and I can't wait to see more reviews/benchmarks of it in games rather than 3dmark.
