Hey! I just got my A8Js a week ago and i've got to say its really nice! Thanks for the recommendation Stamar.
I have just a few questions; first, how do i get updated video drivers for the go7700? it doesnt seem to be supported on the nVidia site. Does Asus release an updated driver every once in a while? Second, I have had a slight mishap with trying to relocate the palm rest stickers to the bottom of the laptop. I would like to know is there anywhere, or way, i can get replacement keyboard keys. (specifically the Ctrl key) ANY suggestions concerning how i can replace my Ctrl key would be appreciated and would lift me out of my current depression.
Thank you,
Wai Jun Ho

ok
Youre talking xp right?
Go to laptopvideo2go.com
Download one of them, after you extract it make sure to download the modded inf into the extracted folder.
If you update past 80 series though you lose the control panel display of the cards and have to use the new nvidia control center
Anyhow to make a long story short you can use any video drivers but you need a modded inf file put into the folder.
for vista we a8js seem to have a special problem as we have the only unsupported gpu

estore has the whole keyboard for $20 -
Thanks for the quick reply! Stamar you are my hero! haha
20$ for a whole new keyboard is great but somehow i feel its a bit wasteful. I only need a ctrl key and to a lesser extent a windows key so perhaps you may understand how i feel about it being wasteful, or excessive. If i have no choice then i guess i could replace the whole keyboard and use the one i have now as spare keys for future mishaps.
Oh and to add some advice from unfortunate experience to future A8Js Owners:
I wanted to remove the palm rest stickers and relocate them to the back so i didnt want to damage them in the removal process. I used a hair dryer to soften the adhesive so the sticker comes off clean. Unexpectedly, or perhaps spawning from my own noobishness, the heat from the hair dryer melted my ctrl key and to a lesser extent deformed my windows key. I had a paper shield to protect the keyboard from the hot air as well but it was ineffective.

If you were melting keys, I would be worried about other components in the area. Also, if you get a new keyboard, you always have a backup incase you ruin any more keys or in case you some pop off.

Yeah thats exactly what i was thinking, backup keys are always welcome and at $20 dollars theres really no reason for me not to get one.
The heat itself really wasnt that hot. It wasnt even hot enough to burn my hand because i put my hand there to try and peel the off the sticker from a corner. I guess the plastic used to make the key caps have a very low heat threshold. Unexpectedly low in my case. Im typing this post on my laptop right now, the harddrive would have taken the biggest damage but it seems to be fine, and my ctrl key, although deformed it still works perfectly. The hinges underneath are all unharmed only the cap melted. -

I would say its hard to give the OK to most parts, what I would be concerned about is undue wear. If the oils used in the hard drive were heated up it could cause earlier failure of them, or parts may be less capable of taking damage and lasting. If its running you might get away from it, but other than the LCD and HDD, your computer would vastly prefer extremely cold temperatures.
