    Hi all,

Whenever I do a cold boot or restart of Vista, I'll notice that my screen is dimmed down to 40% brightness, whether I'm plugged in or on the battery. This wouldn't be too big of a deal for me, except I find that I'm limited to choosing 35% brightness or 40% brightness. The only way I can go past either of these limits is to hibernate the computer, and bring it back to life.

Once it's been through a hibernation cycle, all seems to be well. However, it's not always fun to restart your computer, and on top of the load time, consider that you have to hibernate and reload the computer until you can get your computer running the way you want it.

My question is is if anyone else has had this problem so far, and if they know of a way to fix it. I'm guessing that it's likely a problem with the Power 4 Gear Extreme software that the laptop is running, but I'm not entirely certain.

    Thanks

you are not alone. it happened to my a8js as well. the problem is, when you do a restart, vista did not detect your laptop's lcd!!! you can verify it by going to device manager.. what i did was, i chose ' Do nothing' for closing the laptop lid. then after restarting the laptop, i do a close and open lid.. guess what, they picked up the lcd after that.. i guess it has to do with either asus hardware control drivers or nvidia. either way, i'm back on my XP and could not be happier.
