    Hello,

I just received my A8Js and I started looking into the vista upgrade. Now, I know I am eligible for a free vista upgrade, but I have some questions regarding the versions.

This laptop came with Windows XP Professional (32 bit), and from this ASUS site, http://event.asus.com/vistaupgrade/, it tells me that I can get the Vista Business 32-bit edition. However, when I go through the process from this page, https://upgradeweb.moduslink.com/vista/Asustek/, it also gives me the possibility to choose the 64 bit version, even though I don't have Windows Xp Professional 64-bit.

What I was wondering is if I order the 64-bit version, which in my opinion would allow me to use my laptop to it's fullest, will I be able to install it or it won't work at all, meaning I should order the 32-bit version.

    Thank you

Windows Vista is ONLY comes in 64 version as far as i know. It will support the 32 processors, but all are 64 as default.

That's incorrect. There are separate 64bit and 32bit versions.

Vista comes in both 32 and in 64, but 64 may cause a few driver problems, which many are more than worthy to deal with to get 64 bit to get the maximum use of their 64 bit CPUs.

Or you can just wait 1-2 months and use XP for now, and then upgrade later.

So just to make this clear,

I *CAN* choose the 64-bit version and I *WILL* be able to install it (and activate) even though the version of XP that came with my laptop is only 32-bit?

    Right?

If I get the 32-bit version now, but upgrade to a 64-bit CPU in the future and want the 64-bit version, do I have to buy a new copy?

I would assume so Yan. I am guessing it is a one shot deal for the free version. After that your paying Mr. Gates

You can choose either 64-bit or 32bit if you have XP Pro or Tablet Edtion pre-installed.

You only get 32-Bit Vista Upgrade if you have XP Home or XP Media Center Edition.
