    Does anyone have any idea how to install or how to find the hidden 2nd slot of memory on Asus A8Js? It seemed like when i lifted up or taken out the keyboard i still couldn't find it. Where is it hiding? Thanks

    ok its right above the 1st gb

    you put the stick in at a 45 angle all the way

    then it goes down and those metal parts will hold it in place.

    when its in all the way it will be above the first stick about 1/4 inch forward.

    its real easy you just made it hard on yourself gl.

    And just to make sure, the memory isn't located under the keyboard :) You have to open the computer from the bottom. You know the part which is closed with 3 screws plus the keyboard screw. Then you simply can't miss the memory.

    Cool, I just ordered my AJ8s, and I would like to buy a 2nd stick.. what brand memory does ASUS use, I'd like to try to keep them matched if possible. Or does it just have no bearing on anything. I will not overclock.

    Also, this technically voids the warrantee right? But will they care if I just remove the 2nd stick before sending in for any service?

    thanks,
    B.

    They don't use just one brand.
    If you have to, then wait until you get your laptop.
    Won't make any difference.
    No, it doesn't.
    No, they won't.

    Technically, it does void the warranty as it has been 'modified' but ASUS has been more then lenient in alot of cases. But to make sure, I'd change it back if need be.

    Ive never heard of any laptop owner of any brand buying 5300 or 5400 ram and it not working in dual channel with the ram that came with their system

    Not to say it cant happen I just dont think it can.

    So in general you can get any of them. I got ocz and i verified it worked in dual channel with the stock ram which is a brand that is not for sale in the us.
    Its sold in europe under the brand name "jet"
    But I looked very closely at the ocz dim and this other dim and it looked so identical it had to come from the same factory, including micro details like the ink color and the little etchings.

    You cant overclock laptop ram so overpaying for name brand doesnt really make sense. On the other hand the name brands dont charge too much more.

    Sorry in advance for my long winded response, but these Asus Ensemble warranty discussions come up a lot.. (BTW, this isn't a slam on coriolis or anyone else who posts their opinion on Asus warranty issues.. This is just my opinion on Asus warranty issues..)
    I think that this technical definition for this persistent issue of, "Does changing RAM or HDD in my Asus Ensemble Notebook void the warranty?", is confirmed too quickly on these forums. For the benefit of those who haven't seen the actual warranty, if you look at the following Asus URL, you will see that under, A. Exclusions from this Limited Warranty Service, there is one exclusion that could apply to this situation. It states that;
    Now it's possible that this provides the basis for saying that an end user changing RAM or HDD in an Ensemble notebook, technically voids the warranty, (this is what coriolis' post refers to), but this interpretation depends on what Asus means by the word "modified", not what any of us think they mean. So while these technical interpretation discussions are fun (NOT), and I realize that the OP asked if it technically voided the warranty, unless someone from Asus clearly defines what they mean by "modified", they're kind of pointless. (I actually think that the warranty exclusion is defined broadly for legal reasons, not for practical ones. So strictly defining the technical interpretation might be useful to the lawyers here, but not to many others..)

    A more useful practical interpretation, would mean defining how the warranty service actually operates. I contacted the Asus North America service center for their response to the question of warranty service on "modified" Ensemble laptops. What they told me was that changing components on an Asus Ensemble laptop does NOT invalidate your Asus warranty and I specifically asked them this question in regards to not only changing RAM and HDD, but also changing (upgrading) the CPU, and adding the Asus internal BT module to my A8Js. They told me that even if one were to leave the upgraded component in, when you send it to the Asus service center, it won't automatically invalidate the warranty. What will happen will be that you;
    So the bottom line for me from my research is
    You can read my complete Asus (US service center) warranty research and response here. If anyone wants a practical answer to this Asus Ensemble warranty coverage question, it's probably best that you contact the people that would actually have to perform the service, your local Asus service center, and ask them what do they consider "modified".

    We don't know what country mango is from(Though its assumed its in N.A.) and there has been more then enough complaints about other services, so being wary it was.

    However, I applaud you for your depth in research especially towards the warranty, I learned something new today!

    Good point. Asus even has different warranty requirements for notebooks, (although for whitebook, or Built on Asus laptops only), for North America, than it does for elsewhere. Everyone should research warranty policies for wherever they are. Also for those traveling with their laptops, or who expect to try and get service somewhere other than where they bought it, should err on the side of caution..
