I'm very close to pulling the trigger on either an A8Js or a G1. I've read all the reviews, forum threads, etc. on these two notebooks, and my choice is going to come down to one issue: the screen.

I'm tempted to get a G1 because of the bigger and better screen. However, most of my gaming I will do at home, where I have an external 19" LCD. Given that, do you think it is worth taking the smaller, more portable A8Js, since it has the same video card, and using my external LCD to play games?

Please note I'm talking only about the screen here... I know that the G1 comes with more RAM and a bigger hard drive, but these specs aren't as important to me since they can be upgraded later. Thanks.

I would go with the A8Js in that situation, personally. That's one of the reasons I got a 12" laptop. Over the summer when I was doing work on my desktop for a couple weeks I just plugged my keyboard, mouse, and 19" LCD into the Z33..

My plan is for my next computer in 2 years to be an Asus 14" widescreen with medium-high level dedicated graphics like the A8Js has now and external keyboard/mouse/screen at home. No more of this two computer stuff. For the amount of gaming I do, I don't need a dedicated desktop anymore.

Yeah, I'm kind of in the same situation. I'm getting rid of my desktop because I just don't play games as much as I used to, and I'd like a computer I can take with me every once in a while. But I still want decent graphics performance for occasional gaming.

I'm still a little on the fence, but I am leaning towards the A8Js when I think in terms of practicality. Of course, when the practical part of my brain shuts off and I'm drawn to bigger screens and flashing lights like a moth to a lamp, I lean towards the G1 :)

    Thanks for the input.

Both are good choices for occasional moving around, and travel.

Since you will be using an external monitor for home use, your options are still the same, since both have DVI ports. However, since you will be moving it less, and you get better specs, screen, quality with the G1, I would suggest that for you.

If you plan on travelling more and moving the laptop around, by all means the A8js can suit quite nicely for this purpose, but this doesn't mean you can't move the G1 around too. It weighs roughly 6.8 pounds-7pounds, while the V1JP weighs roughly 6.5 pounds and the A8js is roughly 5.5 pounds.

I'm sure you will appreciate the bigger and better screen the G1 has.

Yeah, I was tempted to get a G1, but I actually just ordered an A8Js from Newegg.

I already started parting out my desktop, and I'd like to have a working computer this week, so I figured I may as well order the A8Js. It's in-stock right now, it's $200 cheaper, and it looks like it will also be a fine product to own.

    Thanks for all the feedback.
