Hi all - I hope that someone on this forum can give me some advice!

I purchased an ASUS A8Sc-A1 notebook in June 2007, and had absolutely no problems with it - it seemed to be a great computer. However... in early November, I came back home one day to find the computer completely without power. I had left it on while I was out. Pressing the power button gave no response at all. Even with the AC adapter plugged in, the light panel on the bottom left didn't have any lights on to indicate that the computer was charging, or had external power. I checked the AC adapter, which had a green light indicating that there was power. I changed outlets, took out the battery, all the usual troubleshooting steps. The only response that I could get was when I took out the battery and re-inserted it, which made the "lightbulb-icon" LED on the bottom left come on for about a second. The same thing would happen if i disconnected and reconnected the AC adapter with the battery taken out.

I called ASUS support and had to send the computer to their service centre in Ontario to be fixed. They replaced the motherboard and sent the computer back to me. About 10 days later, the same thing happened again - the computer would not switch on. Again I had left the computer on while I was out. I called tech support again... and sent the computer back to Ontario. This time they replaced the video card and sent it back. The repair team couldn't find any short circuits or anything wrong with the battery or AC adapter.

As I write this, the notebook has just died for a THIRD time. This time, I was playing a game (Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas in case it matters) and left the computer unattended for about 2 minutes. I came back to find the power off and the power button unresponsive again. I did notice that it felt very hot. I will have to wait until the morning to call the tech support centre as they are not open on weekends... presumably I will have to ship it to Ontario again...

Has anybody heard of a similar problem with this notebook (or any other)? The high temperature I noticed just after it died for the third time makes me think that it might be an overheating problem?

Thank you to anyone who reads this and anyone who might be able to help.

    Chris
