 Ok, so I really want one of these little Beauties. I was in the local store last week trying them out and I noticed something about the Track\Mouse pad button clickers

Its bassicly a single piece of plastic flush with the wrist surface of the laptop. It seams to click easily enough, but when you do click it, the plastic bends from the screen side (where it seems to be hinged) towards the back.

What I found is this creates a gap between the two surfaces at the back of the button plastic which ends up being a little sharp agains my main clicking thumb.

This might sound minor issue, but, I will be using this extensively as a portable machine and not so much with an external mouse. I want a decent mousing track pad and clicker.

Do you guys find this an issue with your A6 or A8? Is is sharp to you? Does it bother you?

Bear in mind I got big hands so my thum ends up towards the rear of the button where the sharp edge is revealed during a click.

Comments please people? Otherwise Im heading over to HP with the Rubber buttons but inferior build...

Hi, I'm using the A6J, and first I want to applaud u for your clear description of the hard-to-describe problem :D

Personally I do not use the touchpad that often but when I do, it's really not a problem to me. There is a slight gap when you press, yes but the fixed edge is not sharp at all i.e. totally not a bother. After all the compression is quite minimal, so what I feel is a only slight press of the edge.

However, all said and done, if you have gone to the store to try it, then perhaps the person with the best answer is yourself :)

Ok, so I had the A8 and A6 confussed, thinking that the A8 was the bigger 17in brother of the A6. But, alas, its a 14in model (more on that in a sec)

I went back out to another store today. I think the original version of the A6 I saw was particularily sharp on the edge, I had a good click on one today and I think it was not to bad. :D

I also saw an A8jm...and I must say the Touch pad on that is Rubbish, not easy to slide your finger on at all and the buttons really need a good wack. Anyone else here comment on the A8jm???

I also saw a W3J and woooah what a great laptop, and the touchpad is probably the nicest I've seen on an ASUS so far, simular to the A6 but a bit nicer. I am very tempeted by this laptop, but, feature wise I think the A8 has it and Im not sure I wanna fork out the extra dosh for the W.

Oh dear what to do???

ill comment on the a8jm. no bending on the sceen side occurs. personally, i found that the a8jm trackpad needs to be "broken into" or worked up. or mabye its just me

What do you think of the trackpad surface, its seems very stick and doesn't flow well? do you mean that after use it slides a bit easier?

Yeah, the buttons are different on this, do you find you have to push quite hard? Seems like could be hard to click.

The first time I used mine, it felt like there was a bit of traction on it everytime I moved my finger, but after awhile I got used to it and found it as easy as any other trackpad .... the buttons don't require hard pushes, just regular click with the finger..

yes like gusto and darrick said it needs to be broken into. The first few days it felt as if the trackpad was slightly "sticky" but now its very smooth and teh button clicking is much easier than before. Right now my left click is better than right click, cos ofcouse the left click is used a lot more.

Also i prefer having tap-to-click enabled so a light tap on the touchpad does the same as clicking
