Hi,
Which is the better deal.....
(Prices are in Australian dollars)
A8JA $2305
X1600, 1.66ghz, 80gb
OR
A8JM $2480
GO7600, 1.83ghz, 100gb
I notice that the X1600 has only 256mb dedicated memory versus 512mb dedicated memory on the GO7600.

go for the A8jm , im getting mine soon
Alot of people here recommend it and I like the 7600 512MB -
The 7600 Go with 512MB's really can't take advantage of all the memory it has. So I wouldn't be concerned about the memory. The X1600 is actually slightly more powerful then the 7600. But, because of the slightly slower CPU, gaming performance should be almost identical.

Jason: I was doing OC with my 7600, and with core at 510 (still no artifact) and mem at 405/410, I get 3dMark06 of 2548. I thought the x1600 could only go up to 2450 something (Mastha's). Am I wrong?
-
Hmmm... wow your really getting 2548? Congrats man. Mastha has overclocked to 519/519mhz before. His score posted there is 510/510mhz. I said the X1600 is more powerful then the 7600, and it is, stock. For overclocking... every card is different. Now what about 3dmark05? Also, you should check over in the Acer forum. People are getting over 5200 in '05!
-
Also, what resolution are you running it at Darrick?
-
Jason:
I'm running at default 1280 x 800 ...
At stock, I thought the x1600 only scored about 2100 / 2200 on 06? (they really should make just 1 3dMark version, get rid of old ones... too confusing this way... 03, 04, 05, 06... new one each year)
Rusty:
Depending on what you're gonna be using it for, the A8Ja might be a better deal. Save a bit of cash. But you should also verify if that 80GB is 4200 or 5400 RPM? -
Well, '06 trashes most cards. It looks really bad unless you have like Dual 7900GTX SLI cards. But then it's a bench mark an meant to push your hardware to its limits. You should download '05 though. Because I think '06 might be able to use the 512MB's of memory and perhaps '05 doesn't use it. Most games don't use near that much graphics memory.

Hey nice prices. Where are you getting those prices from may I ask?
I got the A8Ja around a month ago and i bought it for AUD$2600 (but i get GST off because I'm traveling)

Thanks for all the replies guys.
Sounds like the graphics cards are very close in performance.
This leaves me to decide if the extra processing power and 20gb extra hard drive space is worth $175 (US$130).
I guess it's pretty line ball. I think I'll go for the more expensive option.
cinnamonsigh, I researched the prices using www.staticice.com.au. MSY had these prices and were the cheapest.
A8ja Or A8jm?
