Ugh, So I ordered an A8jm from zipzoomfly thursday last week. I remembered them as having really good service in the past, so I felt fairly safe. I ordered last Thursday, it goes into "packed" status on monday - my credit card gets charged. Ok. Tuesday's a holiday so I don't expect anything. Wednesday - still 'packed'. Now I get this email:
So, now I'm confused, is it in stock? Not in stock? What's going on? When I called them monday they said it was shipping out that day. So I call them again and cancel my order. Apparently, the thing is backordered when they have it "in stock" on the site. I check reseller ratings and find out that they have a dismal score now. What happened?
I want to reorder from Portable one or gentech but I still have this $1500 charge on my credit card from zipzoomfly! It's been two days since I canceled my order!
My question is - am I being unreasonable? Should I give them more time to refund my money? I mean, they shouldn't even have charged me if the item was backordered right? Should I call them again to harrass them?
*sigh* Sorry about the rant.
Maybe this should just be a warning to anyone who thinks about ordering from them. On a final note, where should I look next? Gentech or Portableone? Gentech has it for $60 less, but I hear good things about Portableone's service.

THEY DON'T STOCK THEM.
I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there are maybe three of us that even stock Asus' notebooks..... if that. You're looking at a company who orders from a distributors and has they distributor order from Asus and then drop ship to you.... and 95% of them do. The problem with that and the reason we have never done that is because regardless of what Asus says they have or a distributor says Asus has, if you're going to make the point of specifically saying an item is in stock and shipping will be in this amount of time, you better have control of that item. Most of these places will give you a 2-3 day turnaround time on ensembles and that's because they need to order them, and have them shipped and account for half a dozen other people's mistakes who really have no obligation to meet that companies "in stock" needs..
I wouldn't worry about it, but I wouldn't expect perfect service on a product that accounts for probably under a percent of their sales......... you do get what you pay for... Even harassing them isn't going to get you anywhere when the people you're talking can probably only tell you what they see on their screen. That and the A8jm was discontinued and was only going to sell in Canada. I'm not sure what happened, but because they weren't selling the US office opened up the remaining stock to anyone who would take them...... so, perhaps there are none left. -
Thanks for the info! I'll be ordering as soon as I get my money back.
*grumble* -
Justin is right. its very common. rarely do people stock these things. i wouldnt bother canceling your order im sure they are in stock at the distributer. you will get it shortly.

I called ewiz before I ordered my A8Jm and had the girl check to make sure that they actually had these in stock. She said they had plenty of them and it would ship today. Pricey shipping- 26.00 for ups ground. I guess when they are selling at cost, they have to make something on the shipping.

Alot of companies like zzf i am sure have live daily feeds. Their site actually reflects actual disti inventory. Now the question is. Why a8j when the s62j is out?
-
ps: Wasn't the S62J supposed to come with WXGA+ (1440 x 900) ? or was that the Z62J? -

ye that may be true about the 7600 but the dvi is pointless if you ask me. All the laptops have vga. Find me the diff between dvi and vga. Despite trying very hard i still cant see it!
-
You will see the difference between vga and dvi hooked up to a high res screen. I have a Dell 20.1 lcd (1600x1200) and the difference is obvious. I think it will probably be noticable on a large lcd or plasma screen also. But a lot of people wouldn't notice. -

I have a 42" plasma hi def, and 5 lcd's in the store. 19" and 17". I can't see it!

Try a 24 inch 1900 resolution. Digital input are more noticable when there a more pixels. Definitely more stable than an analog signal.
