Ok theres been a bunch of talk about the BIOS version on A8jm. I want to poll to see what everyone is using.
-
I'm just using 207 coz I don't like my fans on all the time.
Also the newer BIOS' don't seem to have any benefit. I was considering 210 with supposed TPM support, but tried it, and no TPM whatsoever... -
i just like always using the latest.
i don't care about the fan being on.
i'm an electrical engineer student, and wouldn't like being doubted by thousands of non-engineer comp-users about my decision to change the fan speed
i'll just trust asus' decision -

I upgraded from 209 to 210...no difference so I'm still using 210.
-
i went from 207 right to 210, and i dont mind the fan always being on. I actually find it easier to adjust to when it is there
-
208 here fan doesnt seem to turn all the time. maybe its just the cold weather.

210. I found that when using the most recent Go 7600 drivers off of ASUS's site with the 209 BIOS, the system sometimes had trouble coming out of standby.
With 210 I haven't had that problem. -
207
the same when the notebook was deliver to me
Work fine so I leave it as it is -
yes i update my nvidia drivers to the latest Asus approved ones and with bios 207 its having the same standby issues...i guess i'll go 210 soon
-
well guys its a bit of a balance really... if you can stand the fan being on all the time, its actually a plus because the laptop will be cooler, so when you start some hardcore games etc itll start from a lower temp and hence the highest temp it will reach is also lower...
also, remember the battery is only supposed to function at a maximum of 35 degrees c, so itll also help preserve the life of the battery too -
Hehe, I hardly hear the fan if you ask me.
-
1 fan is bearable. my last HP laptop had 4 fans in it.
-
-
yea it was a 2.7ghz p4 laptop. stay away from HP's in general. they have a habit of overcooling in their hardware.
can someone tell me the temps of 210 where the fan starts to spin? -
I think it goes constantly. But I too prefer it to the 207 where it spins up and down. 207, it does it once a minute and it's noticeably louder (high pitched fan whirr) when it does. 210, it's just a very faint whooshing sound that's omnipresent. -
hello,
did someone try the new version 211 with a A8Jm or A8Ja ?
p.s.: i have an A8Ja with a "grainy" screen and was wondering if there is any betabios to solve the problem like the one existing for the W3J with the same GPU ... have been searching all over the forum for 1hour now ... any help would be much appreciated. -
I've tried 211, not much difference than previous bIOS'
Warning: In my case, upgrading to 211, somehow turns on the Microphone Boost in VolumeControl-Microphone-Advanced, which produces a very-very loud and high pitched sound coming from the machine until you turn it off manually. So if you're gonna try 211, at least do it where something like this won't be a nuisance to the public -
cheers Darrick,
actually I tried the 211 as well. (on an A8Ja) not so many changes for the fan but i guess it fixed the ATIx1600 drivers or something because the grey tones on the screen are not grainy anymore ! woooh -
i'm on 211 because of vista - no major issues
-
I'm using 211, and it does fix the graininess issue. Problem is, microphone gain is turned on EVERY TIME the computer is started.

You will not experience the graininess issue because you own an A8Jm. yan's A8J is A8Ja, which has an X1600 (not a Go 7600). Notebooks with X1600 = grainy screen (except of course S96J/Z96J/W3J due to the BIOS fix).
