Well I got it today, and converted to ntfs and upgraded to xp pro. A couple of questions- When it is plugged into my gigabit switch, the network connection icon in the tray shows that it is always sending/recieving and all of the lights for the ports on the switch are constantly blinking as if it is constantly trying to send to all the computers on the network. Very strange. It works fine, but that doesn't seem right since none of my other computers do that. I updated the realtek drivers, but nothing changed. Any ideas what is wrong?
Next, the wireless will not connect to my router unless I turn the ssid on. Can I use the windows configuration and uninstall the ASUS stuff? Finally, does the direct media do anything that windows doesn't?
One more... is there a hidden recovery partition? Windows shows that the c partition is 54.8G and the d partition is 36.4. That would mean there is a hidden partition of about 9G. I'm really thinking of wiping this thing and starting fresh with the latest drivers, etc.

When you said you upgraded to XP Pro I thought you meant you did a clean OS instal. Anyway, thats what I did and used the included driver CD to get everything working again. I did miss a few things out which i mentioned here

I dont really know whats going on with the blibking but I wouldnt worry as long as its not causing any problems. When you do a clean install you can remove the hidden partition.

Not sure about the Gigabit lights always on... , maybe download a traffic monitoring software and see what kinda traffic's moving?

Wireless, it depends on how your router's config'd.. mine can connect to unsecured networks quite fine.

By direct media I assume you mean the useless IntantOn/InstantFun button that ASUS touted to load an external media player, but doesnt, and they've since re-written the documentation to say it just loads Windows ? :) Yeah.. that just loads ASUS DVD, so nothing Windows can't do.

Yes, there is a recovery partition in there. I've just left mine alone even though I don't need it .... you can delete/readjust partitions with Partition Magic/GParted/Qparted or something similar...

I did a format and clean install and that fixed a lot of problems. Installed just the intel wireless driver w/o their configuration app and it works fine. What do I need net4switch and powergear for?

Net4Switch is supposed to be able to remember your network config's... for example you have a wireless at home, and LAN connection at work, it can save config for you. I personally don't use it.

Power4Gear is for different power schemes settings. It's able to set brightness, CPU throttling, frequency etc based on which scheme you're using.
