My A8jm notebook seems to heat up very quickly while I'm recharging the battery. Does anyone have a fix for this issue?

I apologize in advance if this problem has been addressed 600 times already. I can't find anything addressing this on the first few pages, though.

Thats not an issue. The notebook will heat up while recharging so will the ac adaptor. It will also heat up when you are using it. You are not being very specific. :)

Eddie is right i fail to see what the issue is. And use the search function for a in depth search through all the logs. But laptops heat up nothing you can do about it.

Can you be more specific? ie. Which parts of the notebook heats up, is it extremely hot or something?

Yes, I AM aware that laptops heat up. But it gets very hot right around the battery pack as it is charging, particularly around the touchpad, and I mean uncomfortably hot. I really don't know how to be more specific since I can't really stick a thermostat on my touchpad.

Try downloading NBProbe or Notebook Hardware Control, and see what kinda CPU and/or HD temps you are getting there. Do you have a P1 MX or regular A8Jm? I remember reading a couple users who got the P1 MX having received their unit without the fan being connected.

ps. This is assuming this is happening while notebook is on as well. If it only happens while PC is off... Hmm.. dunno what else to suggest, maybe take it back to the reseller to get it tested?

if you mean its getting hot while charging with the pc on. Well its probably running at full speed and with the lid closed its gonna get hotter under it.

The laptop should get warmer when your charging the battery.

Are you gaming while charging the battery?

Is the laptop on your lap while charging?

Are the fans working? Did you install Speedfan, it has been noted that Speedfan will lock up one of your fans, thus causing excess heat.

You may want to check another thing. Let the battery charge to full, the run the laptop on the battery, do lightwork, WIFI on, and does it get HOT or too warm for your likings?

If the temp/warm feeling is ok when your using battery then you most likely have no problems, its just how the a8jm is.

However, how long have you had the a8jm? You MAY have a clogged vent, in which you can use compressed air to clean it out. There will be dust, hair, and lint in the vents.

If you can tell us some more information regarding this, like I posed above, we can help you diagnose the problem.

Possible but unlikely, You need about 6 months to fully clog it running it 24/7. I think the poster here just does not realize that the centrino lappies heat up unlike his old bahemith sized dell.

It has been widely publicized that certain picky people will overstate the warmeness of the warm areas in their laptop. I give example. The other day i had to instruct a customer to disconect a dying fan on his computers chipset (desktop). Temp idles at 100F. After doing so the customer complained that the chipset is so hot he almost burned his finger. Had him measure using asus probe. Temp now idles at 104F-110F. Correct me if i am wrong but that would be the threshold for the human bodies internal temp? Now it does not mean he was lying. In his mind i imagine he was thinking the chipset is close to boiling point but rationaly it was just barely above human boiling point. Cars on a hot summer day get up close to 200F. Thats hot. A warm palm rest or warm bottom is that.. Wam not hot. Warm! The example with the chipset happen a few times already. Asus made a few hundred mobos with faulty chipset fans. Its safe to remove or unplug the fans and use only the heatsink for cooling. After instructing customers a few times to remove the fan a few of them replied that their heatsink is overheating, Now obviously thats not true and the word very hot cannot be used to describe the heatsink which hovers under 110F. Why then are they calling it hot? Why when you prove them wrong everytime must they call you rude? I am not rude just brutaly honest. I dont think there is any wrong with your a8j and i doubt there is anything you can do. Like milestone said, Remove any fan moding utils if you had any. I have to handle the same unfounded complains by im, email and phone daily and i am very tired of it. Its really hard to screen people who imagine they have a problem vs people who really do have a clogged heatsink and dont know how to diagnose it. strange part is the people who imagine they have a problem are always forum frequent posters atleast frequent readers.

    LOL TedJ.

I'm thinking it seems really hot while charging the battery because of the thin, flimsy plastic Asus has decided to use for the A8J series laptops' palm area.

This is what I think. It runs just fine all day long without it being too warm at all, but like the OP said, once you start charging the battery the palmrest does get a tad too warm for my liking, but it doesn't detract too much from the overall system.

Just try blowing on it while it's charging. :D

hm... I dunno what to say... my a8ja under battery, office works never runs hot at all. not at the touchpad and the surface, the bottom gets warm sometimes. but when I use the adapter to charge and playing games, it still didn't feel hot at all, just a little bit warm in the right side, but touchpad is ok. the bottom side gets a little bit more than warm tough. haha.

i just remembered something... don't close the air intake below your notebook. Last time when I used a8ja in my lap using adapter, charging, doing some office work, the touchpad area get a little bit warm. maybe the air holes below your notebook is blocked or something? thats the only thing I can think of.

wow  , I think I'm picky enough to worry about the lid of a8ja, the rippling of the screen, the soft casing, and keyboard that flexing so much, haha. lol. maybe u should read my other thread here, you may change your mind. :p

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=59925

haha I'm so picky sometimes spend more time looking for problems than enjoying my new a8ja..... so sad.... :p build quality maybe a problem, but a8ja isn't hot at all. that's one thing for sure. either his holes below blocked or he got a faulty unit. dunno...

In case my igloo melt, I'm still able to use my lappy. haha. hey, I'm gonna do this when Vista comes out, and then I'm gonna be the first human that uses his Vista underwater inside an igloo in tropical island, with a Dual core processor and ATI X1600 . How cool is that?!? haha. just wait until you see my name on the Guiness book Darrick.. haha. rofl

Anyway, why the h#@$ I'm even writing that.... haha a little joke won't hurt right? haha.

Heh, I didn't realise that Charlton Heston was multicultural... I was paraphrasing from the classic sci-fi film, "Soylent Green." I saw your comment on human boiling point and went off on a tangent.

    I do that sometimes. ;)

My A8Jm CPU idles at about 48 - 50C, and at regular office work, browsing internet, etc goes up a couple degrees. After full load PCMark05, it was at 60-61C.

When using my notebook cooler, all those go down by 4 - 5C.

well, my A6JA also is running normally at 45 to 60C

for those with A8JA/A8JM, can you please run a CPU only benchmark like SiSoft Sandra "Arithmetic" straight for 30mins and another program running on the background like Prime95 ... then monitor the CPU temp either by Asus NB probe or NHC? ... then tell us the highest temp and the average room temperature... i'm just curious hehe :)
