I just got my new A8jm yesterday, and the lid doesn't close unless i press the latch release button. seems like the left latch is faulty, since the right latch snaps into place as usual. is anyone else experiencing this problem?

Not to try to exploit your pain, but physical latches as on the A8 and issues like you're having are one reason the W series is better, which it's magnetic latch systems....

Just from experience, the latches are very simple devices and basically it's one plastic piece with a hook and a latch and a spring. If the spring isn't springing back, something is holding it up and that can't be much. It's either that, or your lid isn't closing enough to latch.

    thanks for the replies guys,

i ended up using a guitar pick to poke around the slot where the latch is supposed to fit. now it closes without my having to press in the latch release button. that would be awesome if this is the only issue i'll have with this laptop.

Hahaha, I hear you shlemielo, but knock on wood just incase.

I had too many problems with my laptop, but I'm just really unlucky with stuff I buy, so I give money to whomever is available to buy things for me.

    *cough*, yes I'm a freak. :D

Yeah, sounds like your spring got hung up...... easy fix and it'll work again if it ever happens..... it's just one of the reasons (the hooks sticking out being the other) that Asus went magnetic on the W and V series.
