I think any laptop with 2 slots can hold 4 GB of ram, but the laptop itself will only use so much of it.

The second question has something to do with the processor. I think the new Centrino pro processors will run better with the faster ram.

32 bit systems cannot use all 4GB of RAM, and some other quirks apply. See http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000811.html

Hardware, you'll probably be OK with 4GB.

I have no idea that, and see no reasonable reason [ :)] for which the speed of the maximum amount of RAM would be topped at anything below what the hardware (motherboard+RAM) supports.

It can take up to 667MHz ram.

    The Max ram is 4GB.

I do remember some talk about 4GB of ram running at 533mhz instead of 667mhz. If you have a look at the Brands offering 4GB of ram, Geil, those who reviewed it stated that their ram was running slower.

For now, 4GB is quite expensive and we will have to wait for more Brands of 4GB RAM to become available to see whether they are defaulting at 533mhz instead of running at 667mhz.

Other than that, the new chipset Santa Rosa will support 800mhz ram, and the CPUs will have 800FSB.

I've just bought 4GB ram - an A8JM can't take it, it doesn't recognise it for some reason.
I'm on Linux - opensuse 10.3 and have tried bigsmp kernel, but I just don't think this board can take the RAM.
    Any Advice?

I posted here because I wanted the Milestone PC user to reply - that's the post that says an a8jm can have 4GB.

    You're obviously an expert though.

You might want to check my Tips and Tricks, under 4GB of RAM. I added some more detailed info there.

The chipset doesn't support 4gb ram. it only recognizes 3gb.
