Has anyone else experienced screen flickers/flashes when running Dual Display Extended Desktop or Display clone?

I have my A8jp hooked up to a Dell 19 inch LCD, and the notebook LCD will flickr everyonce in a while (maybe 5 minutes, maybe 10). I can't tell if this is driver issues, since I'm running Vista, I have no choice but to use the drivers given by Asus.

Do people have this issue in XP (with or without newer Cat 7.2/7.3 drivers)? Or is it Vista/Vista 64's old drivers problem. I'm running Vista 64 since Vista 32 actually has slowdown problems on this system for some reason, and I can't even go back XP because XP will NOT install. (Failed to Boot error).

If you want to install XP, you should use this http://www.ambience.sk/fdisk-master-boot-record-windows-linux-lilo-fixmbr.php
And then try to reinstall XP.(You can bring XP's recovery console and write "fdisk /mbr" this will do the trick too)
For Vista,ATI.AMD does not support X1700, there are some people who edited the X1700 Catalyst drivers and installed them. [I know someone with the same problem with an X1400,it was a driver issue too - He had a DELL Inspiron and the lastest Catalyst [Catalyst 6.12 at that time] fixed the problem for his XP].
So you should either try the 7.2/7.3 (by editing them) or installing XP.

I tried to Edit them by adding some the lines from the .inf file that does work, but the Cat 7.2/7.3 still don't install.

If anyone out there could edit the proper inf settings and other files to get the newest Cats to install onto Vista 64/32 with an X1700, that would be appreciated.

Thanks for the XP tip, will look into that.

I have a 19" Samsung 941BW hooked up in extended mode via DVI and have not experienced any flickering. I'm using the latest Cat drivers 7.3 and am still on the original XP MCE install

I would likely point the finger at Vista, especially hearing about all the immature drivers and various issues with the OS. Probably part of the reason I'm so patient with my farked Vista Upgrade order :)

So far everything in Vista 64 works fine. And it is much faster than XP could be. I don't really play games.. in fact the only reason I bought this machine was for an affordable 14 inch laptop with dedicated graphics.

I get that all the time on my V1Jp. I think it's an ATI problem. It happens in XP on mine, any time I have a secondary monitor enabled.

    7.3, still has it.
