    Hello All-

I just upgraded my A8JS to vista32 ultimate after a year of XP32. It seems as though Speedstep and Fan control are messed up under vista 32. My cpu stays Pinned @ 2GHz and will not clock down no matter what cpu load is. Very Frustrating.

I am was using 211 bios and i just found 213 bios on a German Asus site and still having the same issue.

If i boot my laptop on battery, CPU is locked @ 900mhz and wont budge, until i reboot with it plugged in and it stays @ 2ghz. I am using CPUZ and Everest to detect CPU frequency.

My Fan speed stay at the same RPM it boots at no matter what. So, say it is idle when i boot, it remains idle under VISTA even if i max out both cores. Simelarly, if my bios detects a hot cpu @ boot. The fan will remain on high while in vista even if im idling for hours.

I have read a few forums about people having this problem and wonder what the fix is.

    THoughts anyone?

First thought: Are you sure your ACPI drivers are installed correctly?

Second thought: Are you using anything to control the CPU and fan speed (not monitor, but control, like NHC, RMClock, or Power4Gear). Maybe those programs are buggy or they are setup incorrectly.

please define the correct ACPI driver installation. I load vista, then this one...

    ATK0100 ACPI UTILITY
ASUS ATK0100 UTILITY driver for Vista 32bit V1043.2.31.100. I run the 2k.exe file and it seems to load something. This is the ACPI driver. Right? Am i doing something wrong here? I am loosing my mind on this one and do not want to blame it on vista and give up.

I think that is the right driver, yes.

What other EXEs are in there besides the 2k?

Also, you might want to try other versions if they are available.

And the other ATK-related stuff. I think there are 3 or 4 in Vista, two of them are mainly for controlling hotbuttons but who knows...

Nope, I'm still with WinXP for a while longer (hopefully).

Did you do your Vista updates?

I ended up figuring out that the version of Vista that I was trying to load had the OEM crack. This was causing the issue as the OEM crack emulates a DELL desktop PC bios. This tricks vista into thinking your A8JS is a dell desktop and not a laptop thereby hosing Vistas ability to control fan speeds.

Try using a legit version of Vista and it will work fine. Been using Vista32 for about 4 months now. Works great. I highly reccommend using 3 gigs of ram over the 1 or 2. It speeds things along nicely. Vista loves lots of ram.

No. Max is 3Gb. It is a limitation of the 965 chipset.

Dual channel only makes a real performance difference in desktop boards. In notebooks, the difference is less than 1-2% and the benefits of the extra RAM far outweigh any performance hit (such that it is :)).
