I was thinking about buying the g1s as a notebook for uni and remembered the A8js. Is there going to be an update for this notebook? I am aware of the existence of the A8sc but that laptop seems to be pretty lacking in the specs.

The A8 series should have one with the 8600GT, but when is the question. The previous A8 series started with the lower end A8jm with the 7600, and it wasn't until a few months later that the A8jp and A8js appeared. I would assume this is the case as well.

Actually, A8Jp/s were refeshes of A8Ja/m, and appeard like 5 months after. So probably this summer. There's also rumors going around about a F8, which is a better built A8 with 8600gt.

Yes, as fabarati said, the A8Jm/a were replaced by the s/p during the Merom update, and they got upgrades GPUs in the process.

I think the Asus 14" with 8600M GT is supposed to be called the F8 and will have similar styling to the G1s. At least, that is the current rumor on the forums.

That's the refresh of the A8Jc (go7300). Including the two new Santa Rosa models available now (with GMAX3100 and 8400M G) there are 18 A8-models and still more variations of those models, with Turions X2, Sempron, Celeron, Core Duo and Core 2 Duo CPUs and nearly every GPU of the pre-santa rosa generation. Very large lineup. So people are still waiting for the A8Jm/s with nVidia cards, hopefully 8600M GT, and A8Ja/p with ATI cards, hopefully HD2600XT.

As fabarati said, it is the low end A8J. I actually think its the replacement for the A8Jr though.

Theres WAY too many versions of the A8 out there. I think only 4, maybe even two, truly matter. The GMA version, the low-end dedicated version, the NVidia high end, and the ATI high end. IF you were to cut it down to two, it would be GMA and nvidia high end, I think.

Everyone seems to be waiting for the higher end ones. And that's why so many ask after the A8Js SR refresh.

Thats because the only thing really distinguishing the A8 is the high end GPUs. Otherwise, its fairly mediocre.
Honestly, with the new HP dv2500t with the 8400M is a better computer than the A8Sc in just about every way. This coming from someone who is a pretty big fan of Asus computers.

Ya I agree with you there and I own a a8js.

The hp is better although I like the screen on the a8js much better.

Some a8js owners didnt like their screen but i think the screen on the hp 2000 is awful and dim
