    Are the utils XP version?
Anyway, many models seem to require a new bios to opertate properly with Vista (e.g. Asus W3J)

From what I can tell Speedstep will have to wait for Intel to release a driver/util.

    Anyone?
    Thanks,
    Bob

I can't get speedstep to function in Vista either, no matter what power scheme is selected, so the issue is probably with Vista but it could be the BIOS also,

The reason I mention an update from Intel is that the AMD chip I used on my desktop required an updated driver for the CPU as well as a current bios. (at least as I recall......)

Regardless, sure would like to have it working....
    Bob

PS I did find a chipset update for Vista on the Intel site, but it did not help.

How can u tell whether its working or not? I set it to balanced or power saver and turn down the brightness of my monitor and vista seems to be giving better battery life than xp

Run CPU-Z and see your CPU clock speed & voltage when running on battery. When on battery power, my regular Core Duo is suppose to clock down to 1GHz w/ .950v,

    WEP is 4.5

    Don't do an upgrade...

I would make a barts boot disk. Either boot from a boot cd and delete everything off of the partition except for the data you want.

    OR

Backup your HD with an imager like Acronis and format the partition and recover data from there.

If you need help with the drivers let me know.

just noticed that yours is an A8Jm. Mine is an A8Js with a T7200. Maybe that is part of the issue?

The only thing I have left I can offer is....when I installed Vista, as I recall, there was an unknown device that I could not inf a driver for. Out of desperation I had it search the driver CD and it found one. Unfortunately I do not recall which hardware item it was....

Using CPUz: With mine when the CPU is not being tapped it drops down to a lower clock speed and the multiplier goes to 6. Whereas if I start a CPU intensive app (on both cores) the multiplier goes to 12 and the clock rate doubles (or so).

I do not recall the specifics of my power settings in control panel, but I di not change them from default.

Possibly altho, i think both the A8Js and the A8Jm use the same i945pm chipset. I dont have any unknown devices in my device manager either. Its strange but running at 1.83Ghz vista battery meter shows more than 3hrs, which xp would never.
Maybe asus will release power4gear for vista :p

Thanks a lot guys :). vista says: 3hrs 41min with wifi on and brightness 3rd lowest thats awesome...

Im going to need some help getting some drivers, especially the video card driver.

I tried x64 first, but i had about 6 unidentified devices in devicemanager even after windows update.

Now i reformated again and into x86 with only 1 unidentified device, which i think is the video camera on the top of the screen. But im also using the standard VGA monitor driver and thats kiling me.

    www.laptopvideo2go.com for video card drivers

for the rest put in the Asus driver cd key and tell vista to look for drivers in the CD
