Im a university student at the moment, so i needed a laptop for notes and random stuff, so i bought the c90s, dont get me wrong, this thing is a beast and love it to death, but battery power and wifi issues on battery are major fall backs, so I decided to get a eee.

    now i got a few questions. I got the 4g w/ webcam.

    1. Can I upgrade the memory to a pc5400??

    2. Which OS runs best on it, I love ubuntu, but ive herd that xp is fantastic on it. Just wondering if theres any difference on battery length and problems that might have arose.

    3. Has anyone done the touchscreen hack yet??

Don't own one, but from what I've read, XP takes some hacking (disabling many services, etc.) to get working smoothly and I think there might be a customized Ubuntu distro for the eee (try googling "eeebuntu") which might be ideal for you...

As much as we would like to help you on NBR, I think it's best if you were to check out eeeuser.com which also has a very active forum(on the top bar, I know, it's not noticeable). They have a large number of eee PC users on there as well as users who have done significant modifications on there like adding more usb ports, more SSD memory, bluetooth modules as well as Windows XP.

We have a good number of Asus users here but the information your looking for is far too scarce or scattered between all the models that Asus provides.

I've got an eee (using it right now). So far I've only used Xubuntu on Desktop mode. I have to agree with the above advice and tell you to visit eeeuser.com, there is a ton of stuff to learn over there. From what I've read the battery drainage differences between the stock OS and XP are not even noticeable. I am going to switch over to XP when my external DVD drive arrives. As for the memory, yes PC5300 works perfectly. I added a 1GB stick just the other day.

Be sure to check out the "wiki" tab over at eeeuser. Just about everything you want to know and more can be found there.
