I'm at a relatives house for the weekend and I forgot my AC Adapter for my A8JS at home. They have an AC Adapter for their Toshiba and Gateway laptop and I was thinking about using one to charge my laptop as they look very similar. I wanted to check here first to see if this is a bad idea. Are their any possible bad effects of using a 3rd party laptop AC Adapter?

The gateway adapter is 19V output, Toshiba is 15V.

I'm not sure what my adapter is, but on the bottom of my laptop it says +19V for input or something.

    Use the gateway?

Someone with more experience needs to help you with this. I'm Sorry, its just not my area of expertise. IF i was to guess, the gateway should provide enough power to charge, but maybe not for cpu intensive tasks. Someone probly with correct me, but thats ok.

Alright, thank you for your input, I really appreciate it.

I did plug it in, the battery left icon in my taskbar disappeared so I assume it's charging. The only thing I'm worried about is damaging my laptop, so if anyone else has any insight, please do tell.

When I was in Taiwan and the tech guy was setting up my laptop, he just took one of the nearby AC adapters from a different laptop brand and plugged it in. I was a little shocked when he did that. However, I guess he does it everyday and my laptop seems fine so far...so it might be fine. Just my two cents.
