I had a W7J and I think there was AHCI in the BIOS setup menu, you'd have to change it away from IDE/compatibility mode. As for the difference between AHCI and compatibility mode with an SSD, it's variable between controllers: SSD Benchmark Tests: SATA IDE vs AHCI Mode | AHCI vs IDE,SSD,AHCI,IDE,SATA,Solid State Drive,Benchmark Performance SSD Testing AHCI vs IDE,Benchmark Performance SSD Testing: Intel ICH10 SATA AHCI vs IDE Mode Speed and IOPS Comparison

when you go into the "advanced" settings all that shows up is IDE confing no mention of AHCI mode anywhere

next i go into the IDE config which shows the hard drive and the cd drive i want to change the hard drive settings but im all ready in the IDE controller, anyways i choose the hard drive for wishful thinking

all there is are some features for the hard drive to be changed around again no mention of AHCI mode maybe a lower version of bios perhaps, don't know but it sounds like people have done it before so any help would be appreciated thanks. -

I guess there isn't AHCI mode then, sorry.

Your HDD is definitely SATA. Did you try to go to default settings and see what this will do? Maybe they are not in advanced settings? Is that really the latest BIOS?
You should find owners thread of this one on this forum I bet they will be able to help you... -

My memory must be wrong, since it's been quite some time since I had the W7J.
That is the latest bios.
The owners thread is closed (hasn't been active for years): http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus-reviews-owners-lounges/64994-w7j-owners-lounge.html
But the performance penalty for no AHCI won't be too huge on such an older machine with an SSD, since there will be other bottlenecks.
ACHI mode in w7j
