    Hello everyone,

I have an Asus N53SV laptop since early may. I'm very happy with it.
Today I wanted to burn the recovery DVDs using AI Recovery Burner but for some reason the start button in the program is grayed out and at status it says "Recovery partition does not exist.". This is very weird because it certainly is there even though it isn't hidden. It used to be a hidden partition but it has the letter "R" assigned to it and I can access it and the files are in there.

What's more is that when I press F9 during boot I used to get "Windows 7 [EMS Enabled]" and it would boot into recovery mode, but now when I press F9 it just says "Windows 7" and when I press enter it just boots into Windows 7 normally. No recovery mode.

Any idea how I can fix this? I want to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium.

    Thanks in advance!

RockShu, the only thing I can think of is to make the partition hidden and/or reinstall AI recovery
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download AI Recovery
    I assume U have 64 bit win 7.
If you have a win 7 DVD and the ASUS driver disk you could do a fresh install if you can not get the AI recovery to work.

Once you get win 7 reloaded, I would recommend creating an image to and external hard drive and get rid of the AI utility as well as the recovery partition.

Also you can use this link to grab the Windows 7 Home Premium ISO, burn it to a DVD, and use the activation key on the bottom of the laptop to reinstall Windows.

Thanks for the quick replies and advice. Appreciate it. I've tried to reinstall AI Recovery but that didn't work. I'm not sure how you're supposed to hide a partition, but what I have tried is to remove the drive letter in disk manager and then it disappeared from 'My Computer'. Didn't work either though.

I have actually already downloaded Windows 7 Home Premium x64! I figured I might as well do a completely fresh install of Windows 7 without all the bloatware. I have the driver DVD so that's fine. I'm now running +- 100 processes at all times and I've even removed some of the bloatware manually. Go figure.

My only concern is whether the CD key under my laptop will work with the DVD I've downloaded (I've checked and compared the SHA1 of the ISO so it's the official one). I'm not sure whether there is any difference between OEM and retail Windows 7. Or do I just have to make a phone call to Microsoft?

The CD key under your laptop will work with the DVD you downloaded. The OEM and retail version are identical expect you don't get technical support from Microsoft with OEM version.

I've already successfully installed a fresh install of Windows 7 HP this morning and the key located under my laptop worked perfectly fine. I've installed all the drivers as well. Feels much better without the bloatware!

    Hi,

I tried this on my U46SV:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/asus/597638-ai-recovery-burner-says-partition-does-not-exist.html

Also tried the F9 key for HD boot but I do not see the Windows 7 [EMS] option. Everytime when I start W7, I get the pop-up telling me to make the restore DVD. When I open the software, I can't click start. There is no option for a DVD writer (the option is blank) for AI recovery ver 1.014. It also says it could not detect the partition though I can clearly see the partition in my computer. With AI recovery ver 1.013 I can select the DVD-writer, but the software still fails to see the recovery partition.

    Any suggestions?

I'm trying to do a clean install. Can't get the software to burn the DVD in the first place. The escape only allows two options. Boot from HD or DVD drive.

Tried it. Did not work on my U46SV

You cannot create a disk to do a clean install with AI recovery
See my post in the thread you linked above mystvearn

BTW there is a forum rule about cross posting

Did you try the link that JP posted above? forget the AI software it is buggy and only allows you to get back to factory state. you loose all tweaks, user file etc if you do get it to work.

I am very pleased to announce that I finally have the solution to this problem. I've had the same issue for months. I called Asus tech support and asked geeksquad at bestbuy. Both referred me to each other -_-...anyway you're ganna want to open the "AI Recovery" folder found in "program files x86" on you're harddrive. Mine was in the original (C) drive, I state this because I have/had 3 plus the one "Recovery (R)" drive from this issue. SO from program files x86, go to ASUS, then AI Recovery. Once in this folder scroll down to "ChangeHD" (type:application), its size is about 87kb. open/run the app. as an administrator. that should unmount/hide and put the partition files back to where they originally were. It doesn't take long at all, and once its finished you can run the AI Recovery burner normally as it should.

    Hi,
    I'm new comer.
    I have another problem.
I tried to create recovery dvd but always failed.
it said "WINDOWS UTILITY HAS STOPPED WORKING" (I attached the picture)
then I cancelled it, then it said "FAILED TO MODIFY WINPE" (I attached the picture too).

Also I tried to recover from F9 key but it didnt restart automatically, just stopped at the last screen when it's done. TheN I did force shut down, start the machine using "Repair Disc" I created before, but there was error when getting into wondows.

Is anyone can help me on this?

Another simple quick hint to solve ASUS RECOVERY PARTITION problems:

give a look at this page Recommended UEFI-Based Disk-Partition Configurations

and particularly to the last section:

"To configure Windows RE tools and recovery image partitions, identify the partitions as utility partitions by setting the partition type:
In Windows SIM, set: Microsoft-Windows-Setup\ DiskConfiguration\Disk\ModifyPartition\TypeID to de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac.

In the DiskPart tool, after you have created and formatted the partition, use the command set id= de94bba4-06d1-4d40-a16a-bfd50179d6ac."

That solved my problem (I also run changeHD after the disk part command), while changeHD alone did not.
    Bye.
